Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

New User, so I'll cut you some slack. The Wiki (if one is available) will contain answers to most questions. I get it that this is a very long thread, but EVERY thread has an option to search it. Type a keyword or 2 and see if your question has been addressed.

It does get tiring for the regulars to provide answers over & over again, and simply adds to the clutter. There are > 750 posts in this particular thread and MOST are requests for info already posted.

Welcome to Slickdeals, and I hope to see a "contributor" vs yet another impatient/lazy individual only thinking of themselves. Enjoy the positivity and ignore the sleaze Wink

Hi, this question is for anyone who might know. I'm trying to find the "internal unlock counter" that had been mentioned in the post below. Can't find those settings; is there one this phone?

Also, can anyone verify that I won't have any additional charges if I just let the prepaid month expire and do nothing more regarding this account? I have activated the phone, and made sure that autorenew is not turned on. I know I then need to wait 6 months to unlock.

Thanks!

Don't know about the Moto Stylus, but in the Samsung a14 I went
-settings

-More connection settings
the network unlock option is at the very bottom, you can also go to settings and search network unlock

This phone was "find a store" for a couple of days after I saw this thread, then "add to cart" (right now it's back to "find a store"). Not really interested in going to a store, waiting half a hour or longer to be served, then told they're OOS (which happened to me a few years ago, never went back). Or best case, it's in stock but $20 activation.

Anyway, I ordered one on Wed and it came today. Nice looking phone. Not thrilled with the 180 days to unlock but I'll use it for a month then toss it in a drawer. (Got excited when I saw codes on the auction site, but turned out they were for the B! carrier only.). Or I may just use it as a tablet with stylus and only on WiFi.

To confirm, I should activate as soon as possible to get the 180 days running, and I don't have to do anything (except make sure I don't sign up for autopay) to limit the cost to $40?

I would be happy to get a OnePlus for $40 to give it a try, but only the N200 is free with new number, the others require port-in for free, I'd be okay with that but it also requires going to a store which isn't going to happen. Frown

BTW the Verizon case for the Moto linked in OP is OOS online, and when I did the store checker it came up with none. Ugly ones start at about $5 on Amazon so I may go that route.

Thanks.

no visible internal counter. $40 is good for one month. SIM card will die after this period if you don't authorize another payment. Clock starts on the day of activation

Thank you! That's what I thought, I just didn't want to forget about it until I get my 6-month reminder only to find I'd somehow accrued fees for failing to do something or another.

If porting out the number before it is expired, will it impact the phone unlocking after a few months?

A23 has more bloats. Both have the same processor, but the Moto's software is very similar to stock Android 12. Benchmarks should be within +/- 2%.

Terms of unlock only require phone activation on Metro and six months wait. You own that phone number with the $40 fee.

get the $60 iphone 11
Not a bad phone at $60 but the iphone 11 came out in September 2019. Too many big cons like it not having 5G (the year is 2023), only 64GB, 3110 mAh battery (who knows how many years the battery has diminished while sitting on the shelf for so long) and 6.1" screen vs 6.8" screen. I have the Pixel 6a with a 6.1" screen and I have to admit that I do miss the large screen. I feel like Metro has been selling the iPhone 11 deal for so long now. It is like 2 years with the iPhone 11 deal. If someone is just a huge fan of the apple interface and is a light user, it is a good deal though. Good for kids but I would take the Stylus 2022 5G over it.

Thanks, I am thinking of porting it to GV when it is about to expire to keep the number.

No idea, I'm new to this and don't plan to port the number.

Can I do a factory reset on this phone after it's unlocked without having it revert to a locked phone? Or even if I do it before it's unlocked, will it prevent the phone from seeing it had been activated 6 months earlier? This is the moto g stylus 5g.

I set it up with a secondary google gmail of mine, thinking I'll most likely reset this to my husband's google acct and give it to him in 6 months as it's newer & supported for longer than his current phone. Didn't set it with his info in the first place as I thought it could easily be reset and am not certain he won't drop his current phone and need a new one before six months anyway! But then I realized I better understand if doing a factory reset later will mess things up regarding the unlock. Heck, I'm not even sure I have to do a factory reset to change it over to his google account and delete mine, but it seems like I'd need to.

If the safest route is to do a reset now and sign in on his google acct, I can do that. It is currently activated with Metro and logged into my google.
