Metro will activate the SIM within 2 weeks of your delivery date, but I don't think it will automatically activate your phone/trigger the device's internal unlock counter. You have to install the SIM and turn on the phone for that. I noticed my phone's unlock date was exactly 181 days after I put my SIM into the phone and not when the SIM was activated two weeks prior, so it was a good thing I put it into my phone before the first month was over. Might've had to pay for another month and start the counter from there.

Can confirm that I only spent money on the first month and kept it in a drawer afterwards for exactly 180 days after my SIM activated, but it said I wasn't eligible for a unlock until about 2 weeks later after that (180 days after I finally turned the phone on with the SIM inside). Bought this phone back in June (with the deal at discounted price with first month, not this better deal at free with first month) and unlocked just about 2 weeks ago.

The unlock setting (built into the phone, not a separate app) gives a very distinct, red X with message saying that I didn't reach the requisite 180 days to unlock the device, but that message about the 180 days disappeared after waiting a few weeks longer and in its place was a link to try a 'permanent unlock', which worked.

you got the order number from your confirmation email, right?

Order # is 11 digits, zip code is 5 digits. Check status button is greyed out if say you have an extra space at the end of the zip code. Maybe try a different browser also.

Sure, as long as it is permissible.
Strange. That link messes with my browsers (Firefox and Android web view). I see that it is Temu. Haven't dealt with that site before.

Make sure you click the correct activate button there's one button if you bought the phone from Metro and another if you didn't. If you clicked the correct button make sure there's no space at the end of your order number or zip code.

I got the phone and the activate email but when I go to activate it and enter the order and zip, it says there is a delay in deliver and the activate button is greyed out.

Yup, it fits the phone referenced in this thread - the 2022 Moto G Stylus 5G.
I didn't see any 2022 designation, hence the question.

Thanks. I heard it self-activates in 2 weeks so hopefully that kicks in if I can't get past this screen.

This happen to me too. It took calling them several times until I was able to get a supervisor to activate it. When I go to the activate site it still shows as not delivered so I don't think it will fix itself.

This seems like a better deal than the A23 deal for $50, but not getting any love like that is. Why?
Because most people are not tech savvy, so they gravitate toward brand names...Apple and Samsung. I have three Samsung A2x and A3x. This Motorola is thicker, but comes with many gestures that work for me. It's a little faster than the Samsung during shutdown. Moto doesn't come with a lot of bloats. I remove Facebook and disable all the Google stuffs. Phone , SMS, files, photos, and clock stay. Phone is smooth and responsive without all the Google apps running in the background.

Next step is to use ADB to trim more hidden apps that I don't need. Memory load after boot is around 2.3GB. My target is under 1.5GB after removing these hidden apps.

Main problem for Moto is that their designs are a bit dated and their cameras are weak. If you only compare specs, you can't see these things.

Since there were some questions on what method I followed, posting this to answer all questions in one place.

Bought the phone, activated, used phone to make calls etc in the first month, even used it to get Tmobile Tuesdays free deal once
Didn't pay month 2 onward since I bought a Tracfone with annual plan
Left SIM in, and kept using phone on Wifi
After 180 days I tried to unlock multiple times using multiple wifi networks (have two ISPs)
Finally called customer service and was given the answer that phone has not been used on activated SIM for 180 days so cannot be unlocked
I am planning to call again during day time hours, hoping to get a customer service agent here in the US, will post on here after that call
Finally I was able to get the phone unlocked, doing the following:
Called customer service again, this time also got someone offshore, he gave same explanation that phone has not been 180 days active on the activated SIM. I told him that I have a metro phone line that has been active for more than a year and I will be travelling internationally so need the phone unlocked. Finally he agreed to unlock but the unlock did not work. Then he created a case and sent to corporate, after around 24 hours when I tried the unlock option it worked.
