Sure you can. Section 179 IRS code allows 100% writedown of computer purchases first year they do not discern between new, used, or refurbs. That being said I buy them for resale. I own a computer store that sells new and refurbished computers. We offer computers from $99 to $50,000 servers. We've been in business for 28 years. By the way my first intern job out of high school was for the IRS in Holtsville, NY. I've been writing code since the mid-70's. Finally opened my first store in 1995. For the record most of my business is B to B. Most love refurbs..everyone wants to cost cut..I deal to government, non-profits, schools, etc. Most consumer model in the lower price ranges are built like crud. These are professional workstations and/or buiness models used in banks, hospitals, the military..completely different build quality. On this model--to get new about $1500 per or if you have folks doing 2D cad or solidworks -- you can buy 5-6 of these. Dell also knows they are going to see them again at end of lease--built better. Precisions, Latitudes are built completely different then Inspiron and Vostro. Same at HP. Probook, Elitebook, Zbook vs. Pavilion. Lenovo Thinkpad vs. Ideapad.

Upvoted, and would buy one if I didn't already have one. This is a commercial quality portable workstation, and I plan to get another 10 years out of mine as a home office machine.
Also... These usually come in excellent shape. Dell tends to be quite conservative with the condition description in my experience.
Thank you for posting.

Wonder how easy it is to change the battery and if compatible batteries, including 3rd parties, are still for sale. The battery is pretty much the weakest point in the longevity of laptops.
It took you longer to type this than do a quick search. Replacement batteries are everywhere and here is the 51 second replacement video because the battery cover comes off with a latch and the new battery swaps in seconds.

I have a precision I purchased from Dell, refurbished (corporate lease) and have had this for about 8 years. It came with a 3 year warranty as well.

The ones I bought a few months ago were shipped new 02 OCT 2018. That makes them 4 years old at the time I purchased them, not 5 or 6 years old. Just because something was released in 2017 doesn't mean it was built then and Precision models are the equivalent of Corporate Stable Models and don't change as frequently as consumer models. Dell Support site will tell you exactly when it was shipped and when support ended via Service code which Dell puts on your invoice as soon as you order.

A definitive statement like a laptop has a 5 year life are inherently wrong. A brand new Walmart cheapy laptop has "no life" and was obsolete before it hit the shelf.

The warranty on the 10 units I bought last year was Onsite Service After Remote Diagnosis (Consumer Customer)/ Next Business Day Onsite After Remote Diagnosis (for business Customer)
02 OCT 2018
02 OCT 2022.

These are single owner corporate leased units. Comparable models in HP are Zbook's. There are not a ton of Professional Workstation laptops and nothingis obsolete as long as it still does what you need it to do. You can also pickup USB-C/TB docking stations for about $50 and make it multi monitor.

Let's assume that Windows 10 becomes useless in October 2025--unlikely based on XP and 7 extensions but we'll go with EOL date a s of now. That's 32 months away. So cost of ownership from now until then is less than $10 a month. The cheapest 11th gen on Dell websire for Precision with 32gb and 512 w/ Quadro is right at $1500. 6 year cost of ownership is $25 a month. I'd use this one till the wheels fall off and then come back and buy the latest refurb deal.
Thanks for posting the deal and sharing all the additional information. Repped!

Just search dell e dock USB 3.0 in eBay and you can find it.
I bought 20 of them myself, they also will work with any laptop with thunderbolt. Tested with multiple computers today as a matter of fact.

I'll probably by more...All of ours tested perfect by the way.

How is this a frontpage deal on a old a$$ beatup computer. You can get 11 or 12 gen cpu laptops now if you look hard enough for a similar price.
Example? Link?

Although it's considerably more expensive, I find the WD19 dock's USB-C connector considerably more durable.

But, the price difference means you could buy 3 of the K16s...

Great deal really powerful laptop better than Intel i5 12th Gen

an i3-12100 is over 50 % faster in 99 % of all applications,
even for 299 with 32 gb and 512 ssd its still an 7 year old CPU the age of the laptop
is may be 5-6 years, so an lot of wear of it.

still DYOR but i can not recommend these Deal machines i did one time the mistake and bought one never again.
