though some may be wishing for IPS panel as well.
I picked up one. I know speed is relative, especially with the workload you are throwing at it, but this is a good, fast laptop, for the price. I did migrate it out of Windows S mode and ran some debloat scripts.
While at Microcenter I picked up a Inland brand 512GB Sata SSD hard drive. They had them at the Atlanta/Duluth store for $25. It has a free bay for an internal SSD hard drive.
The laptop does not come with a sata cable or screws to mount a hard drive. I ordered this one.

I can confirm that it fits perfectly, is exactly the correct length, and works. It is a bit tedious to connect the ribbon cable to the motherboard.
This isn't a gaming or high end business laptop, but for my use case, it's great. So far, no complaints.

Please tell is how could they have "basically same performance"!?
In terms of battery life and price, the Walmart one might be way better… LOL
This laptop is 2 cores and TN panel and nonupgradeable.
Just get a workstation laptop from the 8th generation of Intel (when they made 4 cores standard) or higher. They'll be IPS and have better performance in a lot of things while having upgradeable ram.
Or wait for another deal for $250 or so for something that meets this standard. This laptop is already outdated.
Notwithstanding the 2 cores (which are much faster since they are 11th gen vs. 8th gen), refurb workstation notebooks are way more upgradeable in every way and most come with backlit keyboards as well as full hd screens, though if you don't care for a 1080p screen or ever using Windows 11, you can get them for sub $200.
In the end, if whatever you're using the laptop for is mostly using a single core most of the time, this may be a good choice. The price is certainly right. For anything else, if you're not sure, or if you're looking for something a bit more versatile, you can look into Dell refurbs - just make sure to get a Grade A.

Both are good
Of course I can still find fault with the $200 Microcenter laptop, but my fault here is the screen and for that price it is an acceptable trade off.
