silently downgrading them is how 512MB dram instead of 1GB. 2-4TB Models have QLC variants.

6 Variants of MX500 now [wordpress.com]

I've been using a 128GB version of this as my external drive for a while now. It will be nice to have something bigger.

The price differential between this and the Samsung 870 evo in the same form factor is now about $29. That's steep. I was hoping that Crucial's price drop would put some pressure on Samsung to lower their prices.
And today:

What a coincidence. Wondering whether Samsung consumer division was reading these forums yesterday... Big Grin

that basically means v1 has stopped production, so your chance of getting a v1 brand new at high-volume places like amazon, BB etc is virtually zero.

These were near the top, but after half a decade these are not the same drives they used to be. You can find threads of It workers who manage thousands of these with very high error/death rates in the last few years.

Old supply was depleted awhile ago, so any new order you place today regardless of size, will be new revisions.

It's a good idea to update your firmware to M3CR046, from the M3CR045 firmware these new SSDs come with. It fixes a "hang" issue discovered a few months back.

You'll be forced to use Crucial Storage Executive Tool to update the firmware because Crucial doesn't provide the firmware directly.

I got the 500GB MX500 from Newegg almost 2 years ago at a nearly identical price ($52.19) for the streaming & Pirate laptop that I've connected to my TV. Doubling the storage space at this price is mighty tempting...

CSE will not update mine. It just gets an error and like you said, it can't be downloaded anywhere.

Super reliable, still using the 500gb for 3 years now in my laptop, and still as fast as the first day when it got put in.
I have MX500 in my old macbook pro for 9 years now, no issues.

Apparently the Macbook calculator has issues. MX500 was released in late 2017 = 5+ years since release.

If anyone is curious, it's not just the 2.5" SSDs that are on sale, it's also their m.2 line. I snagged a 2TB m.2.
