I ask because I have a Samsung SAMSUNG U28E590D and after about 3.5 years the brightness super dropped off. I compensated by increasing the colors but the background is no longer black. I wonder if some monitors are just better at staying bright and whether the LG is one of them. I kind of assume the answer is to get another monitor, not fix my Samsung.

and the 500 has a brightness of (Brightness, 300 Nit - Typical ; Brightness, 240 Nit - Minimum )

I use an 8k media and data usb-c to display port cable I purchased from a local home Office Depot for both my Mac Mini and my wife's MacBook Pro. I tried an hdmi dongle and a usb-c to HDMI cable but both had issues with flickering or lines. The 8K may be overkill and cost like $40 but has worked flawlessly. Haven't had any of the scaling or HDR issues some others are mentioning when using usbc and display port. My initial issues definitely came from the dongle.

"Higher" end model (600 vs. 500), which generally reflects more features in LG lines.
DP 1.4 vs. DP 1.2, which is a big diference (would love to see DP 2.0, but not quite yet)
I got a 27UL650 for someone a few years back, and it's been great. Hadn't had any experience with LG monitors prior to that and my 32UL750, and now I'm a fan. They've both been flawless, and I use DP, HDMI and USB-C all connected on the 32. Just checked the "Information" menu, and I've got a hair under 5000 hours on it, no issues.

Now "No USB-C" has become the new version of the original "No HDMI", and it made me feel old to realize how far the "No HDMI" thing went back. I have witnessed the life cycle of another technology.

As for USB-C, I'd rather spend $20-30 on a 4k60 USB-C hub that also has extra functionality, versus an extra $150-200 on the monitor just to save some cable clutter. The added circuitry and complexity to support PD charging and downstream USB ports also means higher likelihood of something breaking down the line. Some of the monitors are also replacing the DisplayPort input with USB-C, and I'd prefer to have the DisplayPort.
