Ya know, I've always read about how transferring for points was the best deal. However, any time I've tried to compare how much it would cost to pay for a flight versus use miles, it's always about the same or worse. And my understanding is that you can't even transfer directly to United Airlines, but it has to go to a partner and ends up with a valuation of 1 cent per point anyway.

Either I'm not doing something right, or the meta on best point value just doesn't work for me.

It may not be the best, but 15% off gift cards is still a good value.
Lucky you. I don't have any travel options at all, and gift card is still not worth it, even after the sale. It depends on which Citi card you have, and they have many. Some have better benefits, while others are worse or even downright awful.

Depends which airlines you use. I'm currently waiting for Qatar to bring back the 1.3X/1.4X bonus then I'll transfer them to Qatar and on to British Airways. But plenty more (and easier) options.
Depends on which airline you use is not a tangible example. Smilie If you have example of good value by transferring - shoot them here.

Do you have any specifics about the business class to Hawaii for $130??? Pls
You use Turkish miles and smiles to book united business class or economy. It's $80 non stop in economy and $130 in business. Just used it to fly it myself. It's only lie flat if you're flying from Denver or further east but still worth it for free checked bags and more recline flying non stop from the west coast. Hope this helps!

It does not just depend on the airline you use, but also the type of Citi credit card you have. The point redemption values and transfer partners are actually quite limited if you have one of their no-annual fee cards.

Using Qatar especially during a transfer bonus is excellent value. You can fly to Maldives for example for $820 one way in Q-Suites business class from the US (62K + $200). Q suites is rated as a top 3 cabin for business class.

Ah yes, I'm assuming people have the Citi Premier or Prestige in this case since those are needed for transferring.

So is it more of a "Find a good deal and schedule a vacation to match" type thing?

Or are you able to find good deals on places you were already planning to go?

That bonus might never come back or come back at a different rate, then these partner transfers cease to exist, flight valuations change, some flights that were available for reward travel no longer are, blackouts, sell outs etc etc… and the list goes on…

I am so tired of these hypothetical goose chases that I just opt for direct book (when I had prestige with 20% point discount when booked through their travel)… or just gift cards at a good discount lol

You can do either but if you want guaranteed availability for a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary you can book almost a year in advance for most programs.

Even without the transfer bonus you can great value, and each transfer partner has its own sweet spots. You have to be flexible with your dates though since availability can be volatile.

Already given a tangible example - 1.4X offer from Qatar. Obviously useless if you don't have a Qatar/Avios account, hence "depends on which airline you use"

Please show me how to book JFK-WAW with LOT via Turkish airlines. That flight could be booked with United miles/Kris Flyer but I couldn't find a way to book through Turkish.

Is this offer available now? If not - that's same as saying that 3% mortgage is a good deal. Nobody argues with that, but is it available now? Not really.

Exactly this. In order to find a deal with TY points you have to register at 20 various partners, then run numbers there and then, after 40 hours of work you might be able to save $3. On top of that, you can't' book travel via portal further than June 2023. LMAO The worst program ever.
