This is a rather old device. Came out in 2018.

For the price it is pretty good if you can live with the things left off this model.

Wifi, Strava segments, Power meter, workouts.
Use yours less. Useless reply. The battery of your phone as a GPS will last a lot less than this will for a full day of riding, and if you need assistance you'd be bummed you can't make a call since you used it up. Also, your phone won't give you routes based on a mileage of a ride, which this will. It's a nice feature if your away from home/on vacation and want to get a ride in and don't know where to go. You punch in a mileage and it will give you a loop with a few options in terms of difficulty/traffic.

Oh and in the rare case you have a crash, would you rather wreck your phone worth hundreds of dollars or your $85 gps?

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

I guess social media made it cool to post useless replies...

actually phone battery life with gps on is really good. I use a backup phone as a gps logger and it easily lasts more than 12 hours. You can also attach those battery packs to iphones for even more battery life.

There is no reason you have to carry a single phone. Use an old phone on the bike and carry your main phone. The phone even comes with a built in flash light, better screen, and faster processor.

The big issue with using a phone is lack of good software designed for riding. Strava is pretty good but not as much cycling data for the data hungry people. There are other decent apps.
GPS is NOT the issue, the screen is. I forgot my computer for one ride, and used my phone (has mount, and software) but the screen being constantly on will HURT you. I like to see my cadence, HR and speed ant any time (grade is nice too). The app you want if you are going to use your phone is Jepster.

iphone 13 gets 16 hours of video play back. I'm assuming the screen is on the whole time.

So screen on, gps on, data off, I expect an iphone to easily beat the 3 hours of this garmin unit. Get one of those apple battery packs and it should last a full day.

Meanwhile, the handlebar vibrations have killed the camera on your very expensive iphone.

$100 phone expensive? even comes with 3 months of service.

garmin in this thread is $85

Garmin is not going to out engineer Apple. Your garmin bike computer does the same thing a phone does. GPS, screen, bluetooth, .etc. Except apple custom designs everything for best performance, battery life, .etc.

You said iPhone 13. That's not an iPhone 13.

And they could all have broken cameras from the handlebar vibrations - which was the simple point of my original post.

why does the camera suddenly matter? Does garmin have a camera?

The simple point that I was trying to get across is that if you mount a phone on the handlebars, the vibrations can kill the phone's camera. I couldn't care less whether or not you personally want a camera on your phone, but if someone does, then they may not want to expose it to handlebar vibrations.

If you have a Garmin (or similar) on your handlebars, then you can keep your phone in your bag or jersey pocket where it'll be much less likely to be damaged.

and I'm pointing out that phones are a very viable alternative to these bike computers.

MAMIs dismiss it because it's not designed specifically for bicycling. gotta save grams and look pro.

No need for name calling. Of course a phone can be an alternative to a computer, after all, there are hundreds of phone mounts available for bicycles.

Choosing a computer over a phone is rarely about grams or looks, but more-so about function, usability, and not subjecting your phone to the risks of being on the bars.
