I don't know much about computers other than what I've read here over the years and I trust the opinions here.
I got my current (Acer) laptop from a Slickdeal here like 9? years ago on blind faith in the knowledge base here. And that turned out well. Thank you all.
It still works fine. The graphics colors/screen have always been awful. It's a bit slow opening a few common apps. but fine once open. I don't run any high-tech apps. or games. It really does everything that I need it to. It's just blah.
I keep bailing out on buying the deal in this thread because I really don't know if it will make a big enough difference to my world to be worth spending the $.
I feel like I really don't have a legitimate need for a "better" computer. But I'm still tempted to grab this deal.
Help a non-geek decide?
Here's the spec's for the Acer I'm running now:

p.s. I can't remember the last time this laptop left my desk. I rarely take it anywhere. It sits here and is connected to another monitor so I can have 2 screens.
Maybe I should be looking for a desktop computer and another monitor instead of a laptop? But it would still be nice to have the option to have a mobile laptop if I ever do need to go somewhere with it. The battery in my current/old laptop probably won't last an hour.
If the reason is "the newer model is nicer," there is no end to that pursuit because everything is always becoming nicer. Again, just my two cents' worth.
if youre spending 24 hours infront of a screen its better to get something nicer to look at

The laptop has 5.7 hours battery life when brand new, which Target rounded to 6 hours on its website. But battery life degrades over time, so it'd be even worse once you used the laptop over the years. And even worse than that if you used it for computationally-intensive tasks. All of my other laptops are 8 hrs+ battery life, even my cheap ASUS with similar specs.

Otherwise looks like a good entry laptop - got two for my kids
upgrading form a 2012 macbook air
my desktop has been running daily for over 11 years and is an Acer, they seem to put good components inside and i have modded this thing like a christmas tree. my Dell Latitude laptop in condition A came to me in what looks like new condition. these refurbished pc's from Dell come at a very Tiny price, and also are upgrade able ram/SSD as they are not soldered in. if you are into upgrading then soldering isn't your friend.
Is this what you all are seeing?
Anyone has idea how to boost it to 4.4? Any issues doing so?
Thanks
The Lenovo has more storage, but storage is easily expanded via an external USB drive, whereas the Lenovo's weaker CPU cannot be upgraded. For most apps, the CPU advantage isn't large, but even so, it's a difference.
Imho the bigger difference (only to SOME people; for most it won't matter much) is that the Lenovo can do USB-C charging and Displayport-out rather than relying on AC adapter and HDMI. But that 5.7 hour battery life is pathetic brand new and will shrink with use. For some people it doesn't matter; for others, it does.
Computers and parts are in free fall right now. You may be able to score better deals not months, but mere days or weeks from now.
P.S. To be extra clear: I never said identical specs, and if the only thing you took away from the above is that the Lenovo has more storage, while ignoring differences like how I paid $25 less and got a stronger CPU (2P + 8E cores, compared to this Lenovo's 2P + 4E cores), then you have reading comprehension issues. SSD prices are falling fast, and you can already get excellent 1TB-sized ones for $62. https://slickdeals.net/f/16456345-1tb-sandisk-e30-portable-usb-3-2-gen-2-type-c-external-solid-state-drive-ssd-62-free-shipping In contrast, you can't really upgrade a laptop's CPU, and the ASUS was already $25 cheaper months ago. Laptop prices will continue to fall... Microcenter was selling a decent one for $199 the other day.
