Dell refurbished is old. This i3 cpu is faster than those 8th gen i7 cpu. This has an empty slot that can add at least one 8g ram. I think you can add up to 32g.

You obviously don't know how fast these i3 12th gen processors are...they would smoke those old used/refurbished i7s without a sweat

I got this laptop yesterday. After removing some of the unnecessary apps and adding security - I have noticed the system says Processor i3-1215U 1.2GHz. I thought it could run at 4.4GHZ.
Is this what you all are seeing?

Anyone has idea how to boost it to 4.4? Any issues doing so?

Thanks
This is due to Intel's "Turbo Boost" technology. The processor runs at a lower frequency under light workloads to save power and keep the CPU cooler. It will automatically run at a higher frequency if needed. If you run a CPU-intensive application, you will see the processor speed jump up to handle it.

why is the battery life so bad for a laptop with 10w CPU?
- Inefficient screen
- Small battery
- Windows

My guesses.

I bought one. Not sure why. Seemed cheap. 30 day return policy so I'll give it a go.
Brought mine today, downloaded brave browser and opened 4 tabs. Fan spins non stop loud. Gonna return it by Monday. Also screen looks crap. Gonna purchase old dell refurb.

Got it today. The screen is not good for photo editing. Very blurry. You get what you pay for

I had the same issue but then I used Lenovo Vanguard and changed the power setting to lower fan use and it fixed it

Got one to replace aging desktop.
CPU is pretty great - cpubenchmark shows 11533, so going from old 5000 ranked desktop - this one is smooth for the price.
Added another 8gb RAM stick from amazon for $21 - not required but if you run apps that eat up memory its worth the $21.
One this that really sucks is the screen - it sucks , not crisp since its TN panel but what do you expect from $300.
I don't use the laptop monitor, instead connected to the Dell USB-C hub I had and have 3 x 4k 32" LG monitors connected running awesome at highest resolution.

Again, not a gaming laptop, but for office day to day work - it's great deal especially if you use external monitors.

Got mine today. Sirprisingly good laptop for the money.

Downloaded chrome and firefox. Opened 3 browsers, 4 windows each and running youtube videos on all windows. Not a whisper. Maybe the BRave browser is the issue.

Mind sharing the link to the $21 RAM stick? I'm buying this laptop as a gift and want to make sure it's futureproofed a bit more than it already is.

One of the features I liked is that it retains backlit keyboard settings! My 1year old Thinkpad does not and cannot be changed with any settings!

I bought one but it won't be here until Tuesday. Now I'm freaking out about the screen complaints (which was my main reason for hesitating on this buy). I do run a separate monitor but I use that and my laptop screen equally. Actually the laptop screen gets more of my attention.
One of the comments here said he thought the screen was so good that he thought it might be IPS. I guess that must have been a sales bot infiltration?
At this point I'm planning to not even unbox this and just send it back.
Ugh. I hate buying computers. I'm glad it's only every 10 years or so for me. lol

If your current laptop is 10 years old, you won't have a problem. Unless you are expecting 4K screen, do photo editing, etc. this screen is more than enough. My other laptop is a Thinkpad T14 and I don't really see a big difference between the two screens. But then, I'm not that picky.

yeah longer costco warranty is nice. They thought about getting extended warranty through lenovo. Too bad they didn't! On theirs it gets windows started yup, I think, but then it shuts back down. They were told it was a bad ssd. Then they replaced the ssd and said it still happened. Maybe the best buy people are just dumb and someone else could fix it.
If you value ISP screen for additional $100 but smaller screen size it might be worth going with Costco. If you just buy it to attach a nice 32" LG screens like I did (attached 3 running 4k) i really dont care about the laptop TN screen since running it with lid closed as such $300 is good since the rest is the same with coscto specs , actaully costco is only 256 GB SSD.
