Following equipment standards enables you to walk up to any barbell and have a consistent starting height. It also allows you to accurately compensate. Should you want a lower or higher starting position, you can know how thick of a block to put the plates on or to stand on.
If it really bothers you, replace the word "correct' with "standard".
Extremely strong nasty chemical/petroleum smell. I left in garage for 6 months to air out. They never aired out.
Finally wiped them down with some windex multipurpose cleaner, then a cleaning with rubbing alcohol, then a bath with dish soap and water. Let them dry outside for 2 days and while they still smell, I would say they now smell 90% less, so I can actually be in the same room with them without feeling nauseous from the chemical smells.
They work great now that the smell is mostly gone. Fits my barbell perfectly.
Would buy again due to price, but make sure to follow cleaning steps above and let air drive outside for preferably up to 2 weeks.
I'm looking to buy 4 10's right now and the cheapest I can find are 53.80 for four Sporzon 10lb from amazon (you need to select single plates to get that price.... the pack of four is more expensive:
