The ARM emulation doesn't work properly with Splashtop if anyone cares. Since that's the only thing I needed it for it lives in my closet lol.

I great little laptop if all you needs is basic Office suite.

Have this as a portable art station. Leonardo app works really well on this one, the same with the Affinity suite of programs (alternative to Adobe). Build quality and portability is awesome. Strongly suggest to look into your apps if they run on ARM before purchasing.

Still prefer the Pro 7 Plus for $580 from Antonline posted here earlier.

Only two things this X version has more are the 16 Ram and the Sim slot.
Sim slot, I personally don't need (why would I pay for another service for very occasional use when I can use hot spot from my phone that I am already paying!).
16 Ram sounds really nice, but consider all the disadvantages with the ARM processor!

On the other hand, the Pro 7+ comes with keyboard - BIG deal. As far as the SSD, I got a 512 GB SSD coming today and it should be super easy to replace the original 128 GB. I got it for 40 bucks, new. So, total for the upgraded Surface would be 620.
Can you share a link to the specific model and deal you purchased? This deal caught my eye, but I don't think the ARM processor headaches are worth it for me right now.

I want a machine that I can work from when I need to be on the go. Something powerful enough to edit video on (Personal videos, not work), I may run Photoshop here or there, and don't mind if its not lightning fast since I want a smaller sized machine. I'm mostly in web based apps, but I want a little extra power and compatibility for when I need it. I see this deal on eBay around the same price point (i5 with only 8GB RAM):
https://www.ebay.com/itm/295343551943

Anyone have a link to an Intel based machine they recommend instead of this ARM based that is worthy in a slightly similar price point after adding on a keyboard?

Remember that you'll need to spend at least $100 more if you want a keyboard or $200 more if you want keyboard and stylus.
I got a stylus for $24.69

If you are planning to purchase it as your main system, you would definitely be disappointed. This is ARM based variant of Surface and even though you would fall in love with screen and build quality, the beauty is just skin deep. Its performance even to this day is not yet up to the mark and Microsoft can't do enough if developers aren't going to port theirs app to ARM. Moreover, emulation is just emulation. Not Apple level b/c the chip is from Qualcomm. If it were from Microsoft, may be just may be they could have done a better job of emulation.

Also, I don't believe even Microsoft's own core apps are ARM based yet including Visual Studio, SQL Server etc. So how would you expect other companies to bite the bullet!

Surface tablets are complete garbage. Even those cheap Amazon Fire Tablets last longer and have better life than any surface tablet out there. Don't take my word for it, Google it. Surface tablets fail in about 2 years and end up in a landfill. Everything from a cheap NON-SERVICABLE internal battery to screen flicker issues once the tablet gets warm or hot

I know so because I worked at a large corporation that issued the higher end ones, in the $1,000- $2,000 range, out to all their employees and then the company scrapped all of them in less than 2 years after getting flooded with endless complaints of these failing like crazy!

I've owned almost every version of the Surface Pro since they were released. I have never had a single problem with any of them. The build quality is fantastic, and the performance for their form factor is great. Don't compare a Surface Pro with a cheap Android tablet.

I think the problem here isn't that this is an ARM processor, but that it's a 3 year old ARM processor that wasn't particularly fast even on release (as functionally an overclocked snapdragon 855).

I like mine.

It isn't perfect--wish I had an SQ2 or SQ3 chip (if this deal were for the SP9 ARM with the SQ3 chip...I'd be sold).

The form factor was a nice upgrade over my SP5. The built in LTE has been great for use as a travel device. I don't use the pen much now that I am done with grad school, but the integrated rechargable pen is a way better setup than the old surface pen. Unfortunately looks like keyboard/pen not included in this deal price.

Battery life and portabiltiy have been great. Enjoy using it for reading long PDF/Word docs for work. Great airplane machine (fold the keyboard away and you don't have to put it away for takeoff and landing, LTE lets you stay connected at the gate before you takeoff and airplane wifi kicks in).

The SQ1 arm support is...mixed. It does 95% of what I want, but there are some apps that just aren't an option because of the quality of the emulation layer. SQ3 would help this a lot. My day to day stuff isn't a problem, but there are a couple of things I'd occasionally like access to that just don't work well. The big 2 are RStudio and Plex. Plex kinda works but is very slow and choppy (haven't tried alternative apps yet). RStudio used to be a total no-go since it only has 64bit releases of current versions, but I haven't tried it since switching to windows 11 which adds a better emulation layer (but not as good as SQ3).
Other things I've mostly tried to adapt to finding ARM native apps--I don't use it for heavy lifting so it is mostly OK. It works with my corporate Citrix setup, so all of my work apps are available.

Also while the LTE modem has been awesome to have (my work pays for the mobile service, but I think I'd pay the $$ even if it came out of my pocket), the switch to 5G is going to quickly deteriorate the service. Between a 5G modem and the much better SQ3 chip, holding out for a newer SP9 ARM might be better.

Happy to answer any compatibility questions best I can.
