Picked up a Fire HD 8 2018 last time around. It is slow. So slow in fact, that it can barely play Youtube videos at 1080p (although the screen really only really needs 720p, topping out at 800 pixels). I don't really see this useful for anything but niche projects where you're repurposing the tablet.

Is it worth paying 20 bucks for something which is already at the end of their software support cycle. Most apps will not or will stop running on older versions.

No. Even the new Kindle Fires are slow with bad Wifi. Instead of buying a Fire every two years, my family switched to buying an iPad once.

Got a few from the last sale the other week but my 10th gen never shipped sadly so got my oldest a 11th gen used from Amazon for 65. Was also nearly new with no wear at all. Worth checking that as well if needed.
