Don't buy this printer. The inks dry out quickly and if you don't use OEM inks (which are expensive; try Costco.com) the prints come out mediocre at best. Don't even THINK about printing photos - it'll be much cheaper if you send your prints to CVS or Walgreens.

I'll never buy another inkjet printer again. If I want color I'll get a color laser printer - they may be more expensive but I wouldn't have to deal with clogs or inks drying out.

If you go into settings on any printer there is a setting to allow for generic ink!
Yeah, that's not true. I chucked my last piece of trash espon in the dumpster after it firmware updated and locked out my generic cartridges. No way to get it to recognize them again and by the time I replaced them the printer head was ruined and would no longer calibrate properly. Absolute garbage practice.

Well, it was true until they did the update. I'm speaking from my experience with my printer. Now that we have an administration that doesn't support the consumer I suspect this is going to happen more often.

I had this printer and it was terrible. The ink dries quickly, it would jam frequently, and the scanner stops working if the ink is empty/dries out.

The trick to ink not drying out is to keep the printer on.I had the drying issue before I learnt the hack.

There is a lot of hate for ink jets, but the comments ignore a lot of factors:

If you do ink recycling at Staples, you have to buy $50 ink every 180 days. That $50 qualifies you to get $240 back from staples, for 120 ink cartridges. There are other costs, but Staples is paying you!

So, unless you really print a lot, the argument isn't really valid.

Now, do you have to print periodically to make sure the ink does not dry up in the printhead, yes!

And, I have 3 workforce printers working just fine with both Epson and Third Part Cartridges.

Regarding laser printers? I have had a multitude, including one of the original HP LaserJet Pluses. The issue is one of continued support: it just isn't there. I have thrown a ways dozens of them!

I don't get it. Staples gives you $2 store credit for each cartridge recycled.

The black cartridges are $20 and rated for 150 pages, the color cartridges are $7 each and rated for 140 pages. So yeah you can save over 25% on color cartridges if you recycle at Staples, but there are better printers for cheaper cost per page such as the Epson Ecotank line.

They claimed that it was necessary to provide the best printing quality Thumbup

However, the fact that they ever played these tricks in the first place is absolutely foul.
Well.... they have involved and come up with all new tricks and scams.

The new generation of "smart" printers will prompt users to waste as much ink as possible (test pages, head alignments, nozzle cleaning...etc ) & it will "NOT" use all the ink in the cartridge.
Plus, It will detect generic or refilled cartridges and render them useless.

Printer buy cost isn't bad, but replacement cartridges cost "Epson - 212 Multi-pack Standard Capacity Ink Cartridges" are about $45.00 & Hi Cap. ones cost as much as the printer! Frown
You're going to be disappointed if you buy 212's for this printer since it uses 232's (you were looking at the WF-2830 which is also on sale). Compared to the Canon PIXMA 6420a you're spending $5 for a Fax, ADF, slower printing, and a dead-end ink cartridge system.

Don't buy inkjet. Ever. Money-sink and frustration generator.

If you want photos printed, it's cheaper to take to a store that does digital prints, or even order them online.

If you want a good cheap printer for the occasional document, B&W laser printer is the way to go. Your toner will last seemingly forever and it will print 3-10x faster than inkjet.

If you want to make color prints, you get the same benefit as above with Color Laser, but your initial cost will be a bit more. Laser works fine for color documents, quick pictures, etc, but you won't get professional looking photos from it. However, it is still cheaper to just order prints for photos than buy/use an inkjet, and they will be better quality than inkjet as well.
Laser is a problem for road warriors like me - all that bouncing around in a truck makes quite the toner mess. Unfortunately, inkjets that use cartridges are the only safe solution for me - I take them out and put some electrical tape over the nozzles and electrical contacts to prevent a mess until the infrequent occasion when I need to print.

The other trick is to put the nozzles in warm water for a couple minutes when they dry up.

Currently have a Brother Ink Jet for past 15+ years. I have taped over all the color ink nozzles except for black so it can print in black and white only and use generic. If it ever dies, I will by a laser next..Brother again..

This is blatantly not true. You think manufactuers want to encourage you to use 3rd party cheap ink? Ridiculous.
