FWIW, this watch uses 19 jewels ETA C15.111 automatic movement made specifically for the Tissot line of Swiissmatic watches. This movement is modular, completely machine-assembled (soldered), not adjustable, and non-serviceable i.e. considered disposable if something goes wrong. It is cheap for a reason.

Fair point. The whole mechanical watch thing doesn't do a very good job in standing up to any amount of rational scrutiny. All roads ultimately lead you to "there's a quartz Casio that does everything more accurately, more reliably, with more complications for 50% to 99.9% less money than the watch I'm considering. The only way this watch is superior is in metal finishing and conspicuous consumption". That applies to all the way down to Vostok and Seagull, and all the way up to Richard Mille and other similar house-priced watch brands. Mechanical watches are idiotic. I wish I didn't like them so much.

Some people like to tinker with their own movements and self service their watches, even their $30 NH35s.

That being said, can you actually get a replacement ETA C15.111 movement? Is it interchangeable with a 2824? I know the C15.111 is based off the weird Sistem51 movement which you are unable to replace due to the movement not being available.
afaik you need to send these back to Tissot for movement replacement- the Swatch Group doesn't sell bare movements anymore.

I generally like Tissot but would take a Seiko 5 with a 4R35 movement over this junk any day- more reliable and easier to replace/service if/when something goes wrong.

Depends where you live. Money is just a number and some people are obscenely rich.

Let me apply your argument in a way that might help you to see this in a different kind of light and give you a little more peace in your vice. Smilie

The whole classic car thing doesn't do a very good job of standing up to any amount of rational scrutiny. All roads ultimately lead you to "there's a Honda or Toyota that does everything more accurately, more reliably, with more comfort for 50% to 99.9% less money. The only way this car is superior is in the metal body". That applies to all the way down to Mustang and Corvette, and all the way up to Ferrari and other similarly priced car brands. Classic cars are idiotic.

I've been obsessed with mechanical watches since high school. Many of my classmates wore Rolex, Panerai, and that got me into all kinds of watches, obscure ones, cheap ones, whatever.

I've moved towards quartz because I still love watches, the look, the variety of styles you can get, but mechanical just does not make any rational sense as someone else described above. They're way fussier and require maintenance service over the years, the service costs can buy me 1 or 2 Tissots, or even more (~$1000-1200 for a Rolex service). As someone who isn't "money isn't even real to me" rich, $1200 does mean something to me, and I rly can't justify mechanical watches beyond buying "cheap" $100-300 ones intending to never service them and purely as disposable novelty trinkets essentially.

TLDR bored of mechanical watch hobby, stick to cheap quartzes
How's that silver spoon taste? Lol

Which model specifically?
MDV106-1AV 200 M WR Black Dive Watch (MDV106-1A)

I spent two times as much on upgrades on the watch. I paid $35 for it on sale.

Beautiful ! a sistem 51 movement, which is great because if it ever stops working you can throw it in the bin.

I love my $11 Duros. Currently looking at a few upgrades myself.

It has been fun for sure. I ordered some cheap ebay tools to be able to do all the work. I'd love to put a different movement in this Tissot. Most of the mods are simple if you're good with tools. The new sapphire made a big difference. I'd like to add a cyclopse for the date, but you have to glue them on. The Duro is such a great watch for the price.

Good looking watch though, wouldn't mind picking this up as a casual everyday watch.

I have checked the # sku on the official Tissot website and it says that it cannot find any watch with that number, will the watch be authentic?
