Anyone can get this deal whether your location has it in stock or not. Ask a Best Buy rep to order it for you and they will charge you the sale price. Simple as that. I know it's hard to comprehend Best Buy doing something right after the iPad price match fiasco from a couple of weeks ago but people really need to check the thread comments and stop asking the same questions over and over again
I just paid 250 for this receiver 2 months ago refurbished.
It's a solid device BTW. Paired it with a JAMO set.

Although I respect the jargon folks and their expertise, I can't imagine there's a better plug and play setup for this price. I suppose those guys are taking to each other, and that the level of effort they are describing to get a better setup falls well outside of the 80/20 rule here.
Good thing too is at the least if you decide to upgrade later you already have a decent receiver
So I really don't have anything bad to say as otherwise hard to convince people to piece together a system right off the bat. Ordered a second one while there as going to attempt the same for someone else and if not will be a bedroom set

Completely different animals, soundbars are nice but they can never fill the room like an actual 5 or more speaker system. The speakers that come with this might be tiny but you can always replace those. My biggest problem is I just found out it won't fit in my TV unit, it's a bit taller than the sapace and I cannot adjust the shelves. So now it's sitting next to TV and no room for speakers if I put it there. I am going to have to do some convincing so wife lets me drill through the cabinet to run wires from that side.
Best Buy employee was shocked to see the price.
At first he said it's $650 but when he went to station to help me find different unit, he noticed it's actually on clearance and it rang up $220. So if they tell you it's not on sale, have them ring it up or pull up from system to be sure.
Get a cheap universal remote by GE/Philips. Both are made by Jasco. On a Yamaha you'd use one input code to turn on receiver (i.e Up Channel button) and another input code to power off receiver (with on/off button). That's just an example and you'll just have to try the codes/buttons to see which work best. So you'll need at least a four input device remote.
You can also get two bookshelf speakers to start, and then see you if actually want to add a centre and/or rears. I actually prefer a four speaker setup with a phantom centre. The two fronts sound better to my ears. But that's just me.
From Goodwill's site I've picked up a 5.1 optical from early 00's for $29 shipped. Pair of bookshelf speakers for $30 shipped. A universal remote from walmart/target for $10.
Concerned that goodwill only tests for power on? Chances are the older receivers are more reliable. You know back when audio wasn't commoditized and quality components were used. It's tough competing with soundbars. I've bought seven receivers from Goodwill and all worked fine.

Could I put two speakers on the ground behind the couch or would that defeat the purpose with the couch blocking most of the sound?
