I'm waiting for that Costco deal to return, it was $699 at one point and was $799 2 weeks ago.

Edit: That was the i5-1240p not the i7-1260p, that's why it was cheaper.

Anyone with experience can comment on the battery life of these Gram laptops?

Oh you might be right, but I think it benchmarks similar or very close to the i7 on this one still if I remember correctly, which is why I was considering it.

So an update, I got it and here's my review. It has a big flaw, it thermal throttles at idle. All of the P cores immediately throttle without even launching an application. For the uninitiated, it overheats which limits it's performance drastically. Basically, you are not getting the performance you are paying for, because it overheats and prevents the CPU from reaching it's potential. I tried playing a basic game like CS:GO and the frame drops were unreal, the average being about 30fps. The fans run at full tilt as soon as you start moving the mouse on the desktop, so they constantly run. Other than that it's a super lightweight laptop. I love everything except the performance and overheating. I'll probably be returning it soon which sucks, I hoped for better.

You can fix this by turning off turbo boost if that is acceptable to you. I highly recommend you try it to see if the performance is adequate before returning. I recommend you add a power plan that allows you to turn off turbo boost. The following site has a link to a registry edit that restores a power plan with this option. It basically made the 17" version a usable (and enjoyable) laptop for me. Without disabling turbo boost, it got way too hot, and it would have been returned. My temps dropped dramatically.

Look at option 2.4 on the list

Also, I highly recommend people using grams try disabling the Intel Display Power Savings feature off. Doing so fixed two different issues I was having on two different grams (2021 16" and 2022 17"). The "feature" basically sacrifices image quality and introduces issues in order to save a miniscule amount of battery life. Definitely improved the experience on both machines by disabling this feature.

Intel Graphics Command Center > System > Power > Turn the Display Power Savings setting slider to Off.

Interesting, I'll certainly check out your recommendation thank you. Ill have to test the performance after disabling it Hopefully it will make the performance a little more stable and keep it from overheating constantly.

Update: It does fix the overheating issue but at the cost of sacrificing performance to a high degree (if you benchmark it before and after). It prevents thermal throttling by preventing the CPU from going over its base clock speeds. This laptop is clearly not designed to cool the CPU beyond the base clock speed, which is a design issue. It should be designed to cool the components up-to the advertised turbo frequency that the CPU is intended to operate at quite often. This brings me back to my original point that you don't get what you pay for, you pay for the ability to turbo to 4.7GHz on the P cores, which this laptop is not even remotely capable of reaching due to cooling restraints.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid for LG to use processors like these in their laptops if they aren't going to adequately cool them. I wouldn't be able to justify buying a gram for full price, or even the price listed here. Getting an open box one on eBay for $500-$600 and turning off turbo makes more sense to me, as long as the tasks you need it for don't require the full capabilities of the CPU.

Just curious though, did you try playing CS:GO with it? Did turning off turbo boost improve the performance compared to before or did it make it worse?

This thread makes me laugh. Lg gram and gaming? Are you serious? This is not what this was designed for. You pay the price of its weight (very light). Can't have it both ways.
