Might be useful …. thought I'd share.

Says it's not removable.

They might change the price as they sell out, seen that before with Amazon.

Added:

When installing these, be sure to look for, and copy (take a picture), any information (serial number) inside the tools' battery area …. once this is installed, you cannot get to that info.

In fact, I'm not going to install these until I've had a chance to tinker with them.

Also: I don't see a separate charging port , so apparently they draw off the battery used for the tool, not a separate charger.

So if it doesn't have a battery and it's not connected to an app on someone's phone it's pointless ?

Seems like taking the tool apart and putting something like an air-tag in the handle would make more sense.

I'm no thief, but if I was, this wouldn't deter me one bit as long as the tool was worth prying this bulky and obvious piece of tracking hardware off.

EDIT: brain-fart spelling correction

check it once received. if it is not in original packaging (plastic clamshell), return
also you might want to check production date.... if these are 2018 stock, there might be a problem. read the reviews

meh, i'll try one at this price. it sucks, its going back

Agreed, I can't see the use for theft. But I can see the use if you're on multiple job sites. When you're working multiple jobs at a time, sometimes even on the same day, you tend to forget where lesser-used tools are.

These arent really meant to deter theft from some random passerby who will immediately leave the area and attempt to sell it, but rather deter theft from other on the job contractors "mistakenly" grabbing your tool and hiding it the rest of the day so they can take it home.

That said, the tools with tool connect built in function far better.

That's pretty cool... if it works reliably. "Rechargable lituium ion battery", I sure hope it charges passively through the tool battery instead of needing to be plugged in. I agree with a lot of the comments, not much of a theft deterrent can probably pry or hammer it off without too much trouble, but it could be super helpful to not leave tools behind on a job or to have an accurate inventory and know where they are. Be even cooler if you could see how many minutes the tool is in use (implying tool usage or worker productivity and allowing you to pro-actively replace). Not a every person problem, but I had $20,000 in tools stolen a few years ago, 3-4 of these might've alerted me with a geo-fence that they had left my property... or freaked the thieves out by beeping... interesting product, wonder if it its actually any good.
