Read the reviews and thorough testing
https://www.audiosciencereview.co...avr.30842/

Should make a great pre/pro and I would highly suggest buying the extended warranty if there is one offered

I have an Rz-50 and all good for 6+ months, LOVE DIRAC!!... but why buy a Refurb when you can get a NEW unit for $1325 and many Sd'ers have not had to pay any tax as well. Plus you have the Full 3 year warranty as they are an authorized dealer! $1325 thread:

Does this have the same power throttling issue as pioneer AVRs?

Incorrect Sir, the thread is active and there is an update on the original post dated 2/2023, which indicates it is STILL available for $1325 brand new. Many Sd'ers picked up RZ-50's from them and it was still available at that price.. People were posting in Mid February that they just purchased the Rz-50 for $1325, so It's still active..... plus for only $45 more then the Refurb to get a brand new unit w/ full 3 year warranty is a no brainer...

the last posting that someone was able to replicate that deal was a month ago. with only a +2 rating on that thread it seems many people were not able to replicate that deal.

if you are talking about the built-in nanny protection, every product has those to varying degrees based on its software design. the only reported issue i have seen relates to running it into clipping for an extended period with a 4 ohm load. that is not something you are likely to encounter when using the product as designed, nor have i seen anyone report any power related issues in real world usage. when used as intended, the measurements showed that it produced more power (About 140wpc) versus the manufacturers claim of 120wpc.

Yes, but it only appears to kick in with 4Ω or lower speakers.

So you get 37 watts @ 4Ω before the unit locks down, but you can get 135 watts @ 8Ω

The only other negative is that the unit resamples internally to 48khz, even if the input is 192khz.

Otherwise it seems like a good unit, if you have 8Ω speakers.

Just a FYI I have had an entire 5.4.4 setup running with all 5 main speakers being 4ohm and up LOUD and never had an issue.

Best AVR I could find after months of research that had the features I wanted and have not regretted in in owning it now for over a year.

Absolutely, with efficient speakers, 37 watts is LOUD AS HELL.

But once the amp runs out of clean watts, the peaks get clipped off; so you lose the dynamic range that a big clean amp provides.

Like the 'screen door effect' on certain projectors, if you never point it out, most people will be totally happy.

Great to see a post with real world feedback. Couple questions if you don't mind:

What speakers are you using?

Main sources? (Just streaming services, shield, Atv, etc)

How's room correction? Using Dirac or audessey?

TIA

The THX Ultra series from Monoprice.

Dirac Live (one of the reasons to get this AVR, it's the best)

Nvidia Shield for all TV/Movies
Plex, Netflix

PS5

Xbox Series X

Switch

Sometimes my laptop.

Also stream Spotify directly sometimes as it shows up as a speaker.

Loudest I have had it was 105DB and was only at like 70% max volume.

Awesome, thanks.

Very similar setup with sources here, and Dirac is the main attraction for me. Just not sure if that can justify an upgrade from my otherwise-fine Yamaha AVR.

Is this a whole new setup for you or did you upgrade from a previous receiver?

I had an older Yamaha AVR that sounded great but was lacking Dolby Atmos and HDMI 2.1 so I upgraded to the RZ-50.

That upgrade then lead me to want to also upgrade my speakers so got all new speakers, then the bass shakers, new TV, etc. So it was a forklift upgrade for my whole setup in the end.

Now my setup is better than the movie theater, I never leave home lol.

I just nabbed a TX-RZ50 from AV Science for $1325 shipped to door and it arrived yesterday after seeing Misel00 post up in the last reburb thread. Quite honestly, I was slightly terrified it was a scam, even after doing extensive research on the company. Happy to say it is very much what that post makes it out to be, assuming they have stock. Just make sure Jeff sends you a tracking number sooner than later because they will have UPS require a signature.

Ordered on a Thursday afternoon, arrived Wednesday afternoon to Minnesota.
