Reading a bunch of reviews, the 980 Pro can be faster if you are on the latest firmware. The issue I have is that if you get an older 980 Pro you will have to update the firmware first and then install it in the PS5. So you need to make sure you have a computer available with an m2 slot to update if necessary. And of course you need to make sure you get the 980 Pro with a heatsink (or buy a heatsink separately).

I believe you can basically test the 980 Pro in the PS5 though to see if you are most likely on the newer firmware or not. Basically if you install it and your PS5 reports low read speed (It can be 5,500 - 5,800 or so) you have an older firmware version and so will have to update it. Once you do update it, or if you have one with a newer firmware version already installed you should see speeds close to 6,400-6,500 once installed in the PS5 which beats the MP600 Pro by a few hundred MB/s. Note though that the PS5 is not a good test for read speeds. This is just something I saw repeatedly in comments/reviews on the 980 Pro.

TL;DR if you know what youre doing and have the means the 980 Pro can beat the MP600 LPX by a few hundred MB/s. If you want less fuss and a still very good drive, just get the MP600 LPX.

Great deal not sure why this doesn't have more upvotes. I bought the 2TB so I hopefully never have to worry about PS5 storage again.

Correction $160, but I was able to buy directly from Samsung and use military discount, knocked it down to $152.

Will this work with ps5? I don't see any reference to heatsink?

Yes it's one of the best drives for PS5. The heatsink is pre installed/built in.

You need a heatsink with that one though so for PS5 it's easier to just get this one and potentially still cheaper (980 Pro with heatsink is currently $180 on Amazon vs $160 for this).

Also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVrtmsfrAQQ

And there's potential failure with the 980 particularly with the 2TB drives if you're on older firmware https://www.tomshardware.com/news...are-update

So yeah 980 Pro can be great if you have updated firmware but I'd take this one over it for PS5 unless you can get the 980 cheaper with heatsink and aren't worried about potentially having to update it first .

if you are storing over 2.5 TBs of games i think you might need to let some go. if anything get an external to store them on if you have spotty internet or crappy data caps and cant just re download them. But I dont think i would ever have 2.5tb of stored games that i am actually playing.

Decent priced 2TB SSD for its specs especially since it comes w/ a heatsink.
