Here's a review by one person on their forum. I hope they don't require a payment method or you can just cancel right away, but keep the membership. Guess we'll see next week how good the membership is.

"137. Re: Is TripAdvisor Plus Worth It?

Definitely NOT worth it. I've had for a yr and the perks and discounts are almost non existent. No good deals on hotels outside of the US. I'm cancelling"

So now Trip Advisor wants us to pay $99 to be able to read "expert reviews" that Trip Advisor has begged from people to write for free for the last 10+ years. What started out as a friendly "community of travelers to help and advise each other in their journey" has now been monetized, with the additional carrot of a 10% discount on a hotel stay.

Puuuleeze. I've left many Trip Advisor reviews through the years, and had a pretty high traveler rating at one point, but I've naturally moved away from using Trip Advisor in recent years after their promotional (paid) reviews started taking over. With all the options available online now, TA just doesn't seem to be as honest and relevant anymore.

I refuse to believe $99 will pay for itself more than joining a hotel chain loyalty program (for free). ...in fact, a $45 annual AAA membership will provide better benefits, and will be guaranteed to work in more places, hotels, attractions, etc, for at least a 10% discount. Plus all the protection benefits for your car, like free towing, emergency gas, flat tire fixes, etc - plus you can actually call a toll free number to talk to a AAA person who can help you plan travel and find deals.

If the incentive for saving 10% on hotels and attractions is what is drawing your interest, I would stay very far away from this one.

There is actually already a subscription service to monitor your subscription services.

Good grief, everyone and their mom wants you to join their subscription these days

EDIT: I'd like to formally announce my own brand new subscription service, called "You Idiot", where for $10/mo I will degrade you for signing up for unnecessary subscription services. Guaranteed to pay for itself within 12 months.
Internet and apps we all use, most for free. Unless advertising pays for salaries of people building those, we do need subscription

I've used TripAdvisor Plus in the past, I was casually looking for hotels in Key West and everything was priced super high above $600 a night. Then on trip advisor saw special rate for Trip advisor plus members and saved approx. 50% for 4 nights. It came up to be about $1000 on the day I signed up.

I didn't renew after that since I haven't had to travel and I was able to find much better rates elsewhere.

So it can come in handy if you're are in tricky situation like me where I had to find hotel for specific dates and specific location for an event.

Used the service and didn't cancel in time so renewed at $99… Like someone else states, initial sign up will net you quite a bit in savings (hundreds for 4-5+ nights). Stays booked after (& during renewal) not so much. Renewal paid for itself with 2-3 stays of 3+ days each.

Generally will not find 5 star hotels but your Best Western Plus, Travelodge, Holiday Inn Express type places can save $10-20+ per night.

If you travel a lot (3 stays (3+ nights)) then you may find the $99 upon RENEWAL pays for itself within two stays.

This subscription is basically BS- I have not found value in it when using it before. Basically it offers a slight discount here and there but it's no different from hotels.com random deals, etc. Hot Rate is still overall better if you can narrow down the options.

You're better off not signing up if it requires a credit card.

As someone who got a free AAA Membership from T-Mobile this past year and then couldn't get a tow for over 48 hours after a snow storm, it's hard to state that it's worth the price of admission either. Not only couldn't get a tow, but literally zero contact or information other than "no one has picked up your request" for two days straight before I cancelled and figured out another option. Wasn't too surprised it was a delay but two days with nothing was a terrible experience.

What sort of discounts do you get? Are hotel deals better than with a AAA discount? What sort of partner discounts do you get? Anyone already a member and know if the deals are worth it or not?

Here's a great thread on Trip Advisor's own website about it.

Yelp too. I cannot read Yelp reviews THAT I'VE WRITTEN without installing the data grabbing app

Left a Google Play store review that said " We built you, and this is how you repay us??"

Not thrilled with Google reviews either, many reviews I've written, when you check from another phone, you can't see them. The tip-off is if your review only has a single view.

Dude, most of those roadside assistance groups let you get someone yourself, then submit your receipt and they will reimburse you, maybe up to $75 or so
