Here's a review by one person on their forum. I hope they don't require a payment method or you can just cancel right away, but keep the membership. Guess we'll see next week how good the membership is.

Definitely NOT worth it. I've had for a yr and the perks and discounts are almost non existent. No good deals on hotels outside of the US. I'm cancelling"

So now Trip Advisor wants us to pay $99 to be able to read "expert reviews" that Trip Advisor has begged from people to write for free for the last 10+ years. What started out as a friendly "community of travelers to help and advise each other in their journey" has now been monetized, with the additional carrot of a 10% discount on a hotel stay.

Puuuleeze. I've left many Trip Advisor reviews through the years, and had a pretty high traveler rating at one point, but I've naturally moved away from using Trip Advisor in recent years after their promotional (paid) reviews started taking over. With all the options available online now, TA just doesn't seem to be as honest and relevant anymore.

I refuse to believe $99 will pay for itself more than joining a hotel chain loyalty program (for free). ...in fact, a $45 annual AAA membership will provide better benefits, and will be guaranteed to work in more places, hotels, attractions, etc, for at least a 10% discount. Plus all the protection benefits for your car, like free towing, emergency gas, flat tire fixes, etc - plus you can actually call a toll free number to talk to a AAA person who can help you plan travel and find deals.

If the incentive for saving 10% on hotels and attractions is what is drawing your interest, I would stay very far away from this one.

My mom pays like $20 a year from AAA and I think they are great. She got a flat and they were there within 30-45 minutes and fixed it up. They have helped with paperwork issues when the DMV//RMV screw up so you don't need to make a useless appointment and waste your in that hell.
$20/yr? Did she sign up a while back?

Other note on AAA is some TMobile plans offer that for free

I think it's a senior discount. She got the paid one because there is a limit to service of like 5 miles around your house for service. The paid one is towing for up to 100 miles.

She gets an insane amount of flats so it's worth it.

I travel frequently for 4 years within the US and some intentional.
Trip advisor is BS, I find better deals for hotels, cars, flights from other websites like Hotwire, hotels.Come , AAA, Costco, etc.. most of them are free.

I mean, AAA constantly gets killed in the best emergency roadside assistance ratings publications (a simple Google search will show that). But enjoy your free year from a C-plus roadside assistance plan from a C-minus cell phone provider...

* I just got done going down a rabbit hole on roadside plans for my father, who(albeit, begrudgingly) now needs one of these now in his life. I Almost flocked to the 'most geniusly named company of the 21st century,' until I took a deep dive(Thank you internet) on the litany of better options. After that year is up, It's an unnecessary expenditure with so many lower priced alternatives. The only AAA plan I would take, is a free AAA plan. Which is exactly what you did, so well doneโ€” but I'm sure you'll be making new arrangements soon Instead of paying their yearly dues.
Pretty please, let us know a couple of the ones you would suggest that are better/cheaper than AAA. I do not want to pay their $67 renewal fee ($62 with auto-renew).

I found this site and wondering if you have tried any of these?

EDIT: I'd like to formally announce my own brand new subscription service, called "You Idiot", where for $10/mo I will degrade you for signing up for unnecessary subscription services. Guaranteed to pay for itself within 12 months.
Shut up and take my money.

Trip Advisor used to be my go to, at least for reviews, I would then book at wherever was cheaper. Nowadays most places don't have any new reviews in the past 6 months.
I now look at Bookings.com and Google for recent reviews and "tips". Any other sites I should be looking at when I'm doing research on places to stay?

I'm offering a limited time deal of $5.99 (normally $49.99) to completely ignore you...

I've had this subscription for a couple of years and can say it's 100% worthy if you travel frequently if just for the hotels pricing. I've stayed at some for less than half of what they could be booked in any other site saving $100's.

As someone who got a free AAA Membership from T-Mobile this past year and then couldn't get a tow for over 48 hours after a snow storm, it's hard to state that it's worth the price of admission either. Not only couldn't get a tow, but literally zero contact or information other than "no one has picked up your request" for two days straight before I cancelled and figured out another option. Wasn't too surprised it was a delay but two days with nothing was a terrible experience.
You do realize that AAA, like most other service companies, provides "Good-Better-Best" service tiers. Your level of service coincides with the amount you pay.

For example, if you buy AAA's "best" tier, AAA Plus Gold, you get a bunch of additional features and key among them is going to the "front of the line" during busy times, such as your snow storm scenario. So if I called as a AAA Plus Gold member I would get tow service before you and anyone else below that tier.

So a AAA customer at the basic level, who got the service for free from a cell phone company, would most certainly fall to the back of the line. During slow times you might not notice a difference, but if things are busy the free basic customer will not be priority. ...so little of a priority that you are forgotten about and not even called back.

It makes sense but in practice I am not sure how often a high level of service helps during a large scale event. Part of the problem is what AAA reimburses tow operations for each service call. The towing companies would prefer a cash paying customer over a AAA call but agree to accept AAA for all those days when things are slower. I have been a paying member Plus member of AAA for 20 plus years and have learned to always have a backup plan. I do home health and sometimes have to go into rural areas where roads can drift shut in low laying areas in a short time and have gotten high centered a couple of time. When I called to request service I was also quoted 2-3 days for a service call. (I was stuck in the middle of a country road and eventually had farmers come pull me out with their tractors so I could turn around and find another road to try to get through). Other times one of the family would have an issue with a car and they are out in 20-30 minutes, during really cold spells it could be 8-10 hours. I find if you don't need a tow the service it is quicker since AAA has their own trucks and employees for dead batteries, lock outs, out of gas calls etc but they have to subcontract for the tows/recoveries and that can take quite awhile. However, I do think their service has gone downhill in the last 5 years or so. (around the time they went digital). It still is worthwhile since I can cover 7 drivers for around $200 a year and can have a car towed up to 100 miles to a shop of my choice. The basic plan covers a 5 mile tow. In the last year we have had 4-5 calls including one tow over 60 miles down the interstate (which presented another issue since they only had one company that did interstate tows under contract-most tow in town and surrounding area. But that company kept in touch and set it up where we could leave the car and they would still pick it up and deliver it to the mechanic of our choice later that day.) I also use the AAA discount for hotels and car rentals several times a month (usually 10 % off and more favorable cancellation policies) so I recoup my AFs easily just through that. Throw in the cost of a 60 mile tow and I am well ahead (that tow only would have been close to $200 or more. Figure at least $75 hook charge and than $2-5 a mile)

I had trip advisor premium for a business trip. I think the hassle of getting 1 year free from work. And then unsubscribing was like 30 mins of work. Not worth it. Plus they had zero reviews I could find for Arizona on "business approved" hotels. Overwhelming excitement my ass.. ๐Ÿ˜†
