Here's a review by one person on their forum. I hope they don't require a payment method or you can just cancel right away, but keep the membership. Guess we'll see next week how good the membership is.

"137. Re: Is TripAdvisor Plus Worth It?

Definitely NOT worth it. I've had for a yr and the perks and discounts are almost non existent. No good deals on hotels outside of the US. I'm cancelling"

So now Trip Advisor wants us to pay $99 to be able to read "expert reviews" that Trip Advisor has begged from people to write for free for the last 10+ years. What started out as a friendly "community of travelers to help and advise each other in their journey" has now been monetized, with the additional carrot of a 10% discount on a hotel stay.

Puuuleeze. I've left many Trip Advisor reviews through the years, and had a pretty high traveler rating at one point, but I've naturally moved away from using Trip Advisor in recent years after their promotional (paid) reviews started taking over. With all the options available online now, TA just doesn't seem to be as honest and relevant anymore.

I refuse to believe $99 will pay for itself more than joining a hotel chain loyalty program (for free). ...in fact, a $45 annual AAA membership will provide better benefits, and will be guaranteed to work in more places, hotels, attractions, etc, for at least a 10% discount. Plus all the protection benefits for your car, like free towing, emergency gas, flat tire fixes, etc - plus you can actually call a toll free number to talk to a AAA person who can help you plan travel and find deals.

If the incentive for saving 10% on hotels and attractions is what is drawing your interest, I would stay very far away from this one.

There is actually already a subscription service to monitor your subscription services.

Good grief, everyone and their mom wants you to join their subscription these days

EDIT: I'd like to formally announce my own brand new subscription service, called "You Idiot", where for $10/mo I will degrade you for signing up for unnecessary subscription services. Guaranteed to pay for itself within 12 months.

I love trip advisor plus. I've had it for a year now and it saved me a ton of money. Hopefully this offer is good for renewals as well.

I dont know which other credit card company provide this functionality but X1 card have very good app which allows you to create card with credit limit say $1 .Once you sign up services like this using that card. You can delete the card immediately from app itself so any future charges will be declined. For all my subscription requirements like this I use my X1 card

It also has other cards like Auto delete after 1st Charge , 24 hr card etc

Live.

Requires payment method to sign up.
I used Paypal and it seems to have worked to register, but didn't stay attached to the account: thus it has no payment method, and is set to NOT auto-renew.
YMMV- check on your own.

Signed up. It asked for a CC. Used Eno from Capital One to generate a Virtual CC and had it set to decline transactions after Apr 1st. Good thing about this subscription is "Subscription renewal date:Your subscription isn't set up to auto-renew and will end on 03/04/2024."

What do you do with this? Hotels seemed exact same price as vendor.

It makes sense but in practice I am not sure how often a high level of service helps during a large scale event. Part of the problem is what AAA reimburses tow operations for each service call. The towing companies would prefer a cash paying customer over a AAA call but agree to accept AAA for all those days when things are slower. I have been a paying member Plus member of AAA for 20 plus years and have learned to always have a backup plan. I do home health and sometimes have to go into rural areas where roads can drift shut in low laying areas in a short time and have gotten high centered a couple of time. When I called to request service I was also quoted 2-3 days for a service call. (I was stuck in the middle of a country road and eventually had farmers come pull me out with their tractors so I could turn around and find another road to try to get through). Other times one of the family would have an issue with a car and they are out in 20-30 minutes, during really cold spells it could be 8-10 hours. I find if you don't need a tow the service it is quicker since AAA has their own trucks and employees for dead batteries, lock outs, out of gas calls etc but they have to subcontract for the tows/recoveries and that can take quite awhile. However, I do think their service has gone downhill in the last 5 years or so. (around the time they went digital). It still is worthwhile since I can cover 7 drivers for around $200 a year and can have a car towed up to 100 miles to a shop of my choice. The basic plan covers a 5 mile tow. In the last year we have had 4-5 calls including one tow over 60 miles down the interstate (which presented another issue since they only had one company that did interstate tows under contract-most tow in town and surrounding area. But that company kept in touch and set it up where we could leave the car and they would still pick it up and deliver it to the mechanic of our choice later that day.) I also use the AAA discount for hotels and car rentals several times a month (usually 10 % off and more favorable cancellation policies) so I recoup my AFs easily just through that. Throw in the cost of a 60 mile tow and I am well ahead (that tow only would have been close to $200 or more. Figure at least $75 hook charge and than $2-5 a mile)

It's odd they need a credit card to get the trial yet don't enable autorenew. Not a huge fan of TripAdvisor starting a membership program, especially at such a high price but that's decent of them. I used a Privacy.com card though anyway and cancelled it immediately just in case.

Anyone know what the part about it expiring September 5th, 2023 is? I thought you had to sign up this week. It'd be more beneficial to me if I could wait til may to sign up.

I just signed up for TripAdvisor Plus today and they do have some good deals on hotel stays compared to other sites. I used paypal to sign up for the membership so I wouldn't get automatically renewed.

From my understanding this offer went live today and will expire on September 5th. There's no mentioning of a cap on how many users can claim the offer and judging from the review/feedback in this thread I'd say there's little risk for you to wait till May to join.

Edit: actually when you claim the offer in Target Circle, it sends a personalized code to your email. That code can be redeemed anytime before 9/5/2023. You can get the code now and decide later. Nothing to lose.
