Was just looking at these yesterday on Woot. Would be a nice upgrade to the Yamaha BB 5.1 deal... Must resist....

This set was on woot for this price last week and I was seriously considering them, but I'm not familiar with woot's return process. Amazon has a simple return process, but the set was $30 more, so I decided to wait until the woot deal expired and see if the Amazon price might change.

I kind of knew it would happen, but I really didn't expect it to happen so quickly!

Hopefully they match up perfectly with the Costco Onkyo receiver I got a little while back.

Was just thinking the same thing for those that grabbed the RX-V385 package. Purchase this Jamo set and then find a sucker to give ya $80.00 for the cheap Yamaha speakers.

Ordered! Thank you for a truly "Slickdeal". cheapaudioman Randy loved them and said nothing can compete with them in this price range. I quickly found a video review he made a year ago and watched it before purchasing. That man knows speakers!

I have this set and the Yamaha RX-385. I paid 175 from a previous woot "deal". I got the Yamaha refurbished for 250. Besides the money I missed, I'm super happy. They sound great and look nice. Solid build quality. I also have the Jamo s808 sub. Honestly it's effect is negligible unless you're really pumping it.

Something worth mentioning about these speakers, they are trapezoids. The front is narrower than the back. The center one is tapered all around. It's an interesting look. Take into account.

I noticed they have an odd shape and I really like it. I ordered the white because it's really different with the woodgrain and grey grilles.

I own this set, and they're great for the money. There are some fairly detailed reviews/measurements out there that seem to back that up.

But I really, really wish you could pay a bit more for an option that came with the S83 center instead of the S81. It's definitely the weak point.

It has a hard time keeping up with the S803s, making the dialogue feel a bit weaker than the action. They also don't quite go low enough to cover the spectrum of human voices, so you either have to A) turn the crossover frequency way down and miss out on rich voices, or B) turn the crossover frequency up and deal with your subwoofer tickling the couch every time James Earl Jones talks.

At this price, though, if you have/can find a cheap receiver it's a pretty screaming deal. If you're coming from TV speakers, prepare to have your mind blown. But if you already have a decent budget 5.0 set, these probably won't be a huge upgrade. Just a great price:performance ratio.
