1) The game is not free-to-play worldwide. It hasn't been since Kakao took over and it did not change when Pearl Abyss took it back. It's free-to-play in some countries, but all English speaking countries have a buy to play model. The base game's normal price is $10.
2) Characters are not deleted after 6 months. There was a one-time data transfer issue when Kakao took over. If you did not manually move your data, it was deleted. Since then there has not been a character wipe, regardless of activity. I have my characters from launch, despite having not played it since launch (I did migrate my data, however). This is the same for all members of my guild. There *IS* a policy that after 1 year your family name can be forfeited and reverted to a generic name with number, which you would then rename after logging back in. Names have been reset once in the history of the game.
Some extra notes, for those who want to know about the game:
1)This game is *STUPID GRINDY* as others have said. It's also got a lighter "life simulator" type of play. Think fishing, transporting goods, cooking, stuff like that. Even the life aspects take a lot of time. This is not a casual player friendly game if you want to make progress. If you are someone who enjoys a grindfest game, this is probably one of the best grindfests out there. However, you should understand that most QoL features are locked behind a paywall.
2) There is an energy system, but energy is used only in a few activities. Such as mining, gathering, or talking to people. Other activities, such as fishing, trading, and probably 80+% of life activities don't use energy. It should also be noted that energy is character dependent, but the products are account bound. Energy is almost never a concern.
3) The game is heavily pay-to-win in all aspects. Even the life aspects. Cooking, mining, grinding, PvP, literally *EVERYTHING* benefits from swiping your credit card. If you're competitive, unless you're willing to spend literal thousands of dollars, you'll never be happy with this game. They do offer most aspects of the game's P2W aspects as free handouts every few months, but never in levels high enough that you can get all the benefits (Unless you're lucky on literal lotto levels. Talking 1:100k level of luck)
4) Speaking of luck, it's a Korean game, so it involves tremendous amounts of RNG in everything. Absolutely everything requires high levels of luck, or cash, to progress in. Life gear, your horses' skills, the tiers of the horses you breed, the drops you hope to get... It's all RNG and, of course, you can augment that with your wallet.
