If you're willing to spend a little more, you can get a 5060MT with i5-8600 [dellrefurbished.com], 256GB SSD and Windows 10 home for $200 after code YES2DELL5060. This one is officially supported by Windows 11. And it would probably make a decent entry-level gaming system with the addition of an appropriate video card. The SFF PCs aren't really suitable for gaming since there are few good half-height video cards.

Anyone interested in these should look on eBay for used Dell/HP because there are much better deals there. Been trying to sell a HP 800 elite G3 with a i7 and Nvme Samsung 980 512 with licensed 10 pro at $144 for weeks now. Also buying the sff and putting a 6400 init is questionable, that card is fairly week and still $140 used. A $100-150 tower/workstation (that has space a a larger factory psu) with whatever $100 card (like a 1660ti) would blow away the 6400.

Well, right now there is nothing worth buying - I suggest you to get at least 8th generation and 16GB when on sale for 50% off. Around Black Friday I've got 7060 ultra small with i7 and 16GB RAM , 500GB SSD for $180 incl. CA taxes. It came brand new with keyboard and mouse, it has WiFi and HDMI linked to 4K OLED at the moment. Looks and works fantastic, very very slick deal for a ultra small streaming HTPC

Not dead. 8600 was never available in 5050 or 7050 series. Check out the 5060 in the wiki if you want an 8600.

I recently purchased a used 7040 sff off ebay for $100. Put in a RX 6400 low profile and does what I'd like for entry level gaming. No complaints here.

The Sapphire Pulse AMD Radeon RX 6400 [amazon.com] is single slot. Install was exactly as this video [youtu.be].

I previously attempted to install the card below, but it physically wouldn't fit. It was hitting the psu.

8th gen cpu is good if you want to do hardware transcoding. I believe 8th gen is required for Plex to do hdr tone mapping.

I'm not an expert on plex but it looks like J4125 can do two or three streams of 4k to 1080p tone mapping from what people are saying. From what I understand the J4125 is generally very capable for Plex because of the HW acceleration

It used to be that the Celeron lacked the power savings capability of the more expensive CPUs. Is that no longer the case?

Yeah they are close but not touching. Gpu temp hangs out around 75-76 degrees Celsius when gaming.
