The phone and service are not tied to each other. You can toss the sim, give it away, sell it, etc. Phone will work with any carrier and is unlocked from day 1. The SIM/service will work in any phone that supports T-Mobile and is unlocked (will even work in most T-Mobile locked phones). If the person you give/sell it to ports a number in, they will get the full 12 months. So if you're an existing mint customer and just want a phone upgrade for a bit over $300 plus tax, buy this deal and use your current SIM in the new phone, do whatever you want with the new SIM.
It has been confirmed from those who received their Pixel 7 phone and SIM card/plan there is NO new phone number option anymore during plan activation. Historically if you didn't port in a number, you just got 6 months instead of 12. The person below is saying that is no longer the case, it requires a number to activate the plan. So just get a free google voice number and pay the $3 to port it out to Mint. Well worth it for the extra 6 months of service anyway. Really no reason NOT to pay $3 to port in for an extra 6 months.
You can NOT add the service (either 6 or 12 months) to your existing Mint plan if you are already a customer. The only way to extend your existing mint plan is to pay them directly. You might get lucky with a chat rep that is willing to apply it but that is very rare. So unless you're willing to lose your number and port in a new one (and also lose any remaining time on your current plan), don't hope to do this.
You have 45 days to activate and port in the number to keep the free 6 months. According to their FAQ, if you need more time you can contact their support, but not sure how much more they'll give you.
You are considered a new mint mobile user if your phone and phone number have not been used on their network in at least 90 days.

Activate similar plan from the Google Pixel 7 Pro deal just this week (March 1st 2023) in March and there is NO OPTION to select new phone number. First tried the Mint Mobile activation website and don't see it during the Port-in Step. So downloaded the Mint Mobile app to try it. NO OPTION in the APP neither to select new phone number. And you can't complete the Plan activation process without entering the Port-in info.
If they used to allow it in Jan this year to select new phone number, then Mint Mobile must have FIXED their website now to match what is mentioned in their Term & Conditions website to Port-in ONLY. The workaround is get a Google Voice phone number with added benefit of getting full 12 months. Then pay $3 to "unlock" that Google Voice phone number for porting over to Mint. That will take some time since Mint Mobile consider Google Voice phone number as landline and it takes a bit longer to port-in landline.

With BOTH turned off you should noticeably feel a cooler Pixel. I believe that these 2 services are Constantly running in the background generating heat then when placed on the charger the act of charging increases the already hot temperature.

Steps to port in a "new" Google Voice number:
I had forgotten how easy it is to get a new Google Voice number and immediately port it out. In case I'm not the only one:
1 - Pick a Google account you own that doesn't have a GV number linked to it (or create a new Google acct)
2 - Go to voice.google.com and log in to that Google acct. I prefer an Incognito window here to make sure I'm only engaging with the preferred account.
3 - Select a GV number... I used my home area code and perused the list of available numbers, settling on one that looked good.
4 - Select it, verify it by using a mobile or landline. (see note on this below)
5 - Really important.... set up a PIN!!! Settings > Voicemail > Enable Call to Listen > Enter a PIN
6 - Unlock the GV number so it can be ported: Settings > Account > GV Number > click UNLOCK
7 - Pay Google three bucks
8 - Wait for confirmation that the number is unlocked
Then at Mint:
1 - Phone # is the GV number
2 - Account # is also the GV number
3 - PIN is the PIN you set up in Step 5 above.
It took me 10 minutes AFTER Mint asked me for a PIN to find where in GV the PIN is set up. No need for anyone else to waste their time like I did mine.
The important note from Step 4.... the phone you use to verify here (via text message if you're using a mobile or via a phonecall if using a landline) will be DISCONNECTED from any other GV number you may be using and will be linked to the GV number you're creating here. When you finish up all of this and have successfully ported in to Mint, you'll want to go back to whatever prior GV number you have an re-link that mobile/landline back where it belongs.

And to think I was going to go to eBay and pay someone $10-15 for a ported out Boost #, that would undoubtedly come with tons of text messages and phone calls from Collection Agencies. Lol.
Edited to add: In Step 3, if there's a particular number or phrase that you might want your GV number to spell out, you can enter it in the search window. For example, if you're a Saints fan and want WHODAT as a part of your number, enter 946328 and you'll get several numbers to choose from, like Oregon's (541) WHO-DAT-6 or New Jersey's (856) 4-WHO-DAT. The longer the phrase, the harder to find a hit, but there are a lot of options for those who want to get clever.

mint just arrived, Fedex tracking map and site was a bit lame.
Ordered 3/3 at 10PM CT and got order confirmation email at 10:30PM CT.

On the back of the SIM card it says "Activate by Date: 09/01/2025". That 's over 2 years away!
Is this just misleading info on the card, since it is really supposed to be done within 45 days?
I don't really care about the plan other than to just hold a Boost phone number that will be expiring soon, so I'll be proceeding with activation. But was surprised to see that 2025 date on the card.

I see that they also included another SIM card in the box called the "Rescue A Friend" kit. Haven't opened that one up yet. I guess this would be usable as some kind of trial? Beats me...
All I care about is the phone, which is really quite nice. I think the P7 Pro would have been way too big for my liking.

So currently you paid $90 for 4 gb but it's officially $90+90 so $180 for 4gb for 12 months in the app.
If you want to change to a 10 gb plan it is $240 for 12 months so the difference you need to pay is $240-$180=$60
you can't do it prior to porting, because your sim kit was dedicated. check to mint rep if they can do. but it's not possible.
