This isn't a bad deal for a 2023 if a fast processor is important to you, but last years Legion Pro with 3070 Ti and 12700h for the same price seems better. Better display, faster gaming performance.

Been looking for a while now. Some stand out pro's to me.

This supposedly has more than 500 nits of brightness on a 100% sRGB screen.
DDR5 RAM
PCIe 4.0 NVME drive (There are 2 gen 4 slots)
13th gen CPU
MUX switch is a bonus
1920x1200 screen (a bit taller at 16:10) - Although 1440p would have been cool at this size.

Somewhat of a con for me, no 10-key at this size. Easily could have fit. But that's not a dealbreaker.

You hit it right on the nose. Exactly my thoughts. Just a couple weeks ago I pulled the trigger on a Legion because it did include a 10 key. Some people may not have the need but as old as I am and using the term "full size" keyboard I would think it would be included. No regrets even though this one may have better performance stat wise. The Legion is still a great machine.

ASUS has this "convertible touchpad" that makes the touchpad a 10 key touchpad but I personally haven't tried it so not sure how well it works. The 1200p screen is probably the biggest letdown, last gen laptops with 3060 and this price usually gets a 1440p or 1600p already

Looks like a solid deal if you want RTX 4-series. I need a laptop with 2x RAM slots, but the Asus, and actually other manufacturers say that there new laptops only support up to 32gb DDR5 (2x16) - why wouldn't they support 2x32 = 64GB RAM?

They all supports 64GB. That 32GB you see, is the maximum they sell it with, not maximum capacity. For years now, max ram support is determined by the maximum supported by the CPU, DRAM module capacity and available slots and no manufacturers are known to artificially limit that.

Yeah that's typical, but it's usually the laptop is 6 lbs and the charging block is 3.5lbs (you do need a 150-200w power supply)

This was $1399 just a couple of days ago.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer...Id=6504564

No doubt it will go back on sale again in the coming weeks. I would not pick up a slow 4060+1080p display for the same $1399.

I've used the number keys on the track pad before. Better than nothing, but obviously not as good as buttons. It's more likely ke touchscreen typing, you have to look at it, and no physical feedback so it slows you down considerably.
If it were me, I'd just buy a decent USB 10-key and not let that swayy.laptop purchasing decision.

Ok, thanks, I was a little confused. I virtualize network appliances with EVE-NG and need a lot of core count + RAM to run labs - the 4060 would be nice to do occasional gaming - 90whr battery is pretty solid too, wonder how it fairs with the new raptor lake CPUs

laptop gpus:
4070 = 3070 ti, maybe 1-3% better
4060 = between 3060 and 3070 (no benchmarks out yet)?

don't see how this is a good deal
you can get last gen laptops with 3070 or 3070 ti for this price or cheaper... some 4070 for $1500 as well...

not exactly sure of the benefit(s) of 12->13th gen intel either

the best thing this new gen will do is decrease the price of last gen

RTX 4060 is faster than a 3070 and at least 20% faster than a 3060. 3070 Ti is about 3% faster, almost the same.

Why on earth is a 4060 worse than a 3070? Seems scammy to sell ignorant people like me less for more.
