With how long it takes to bring an instant pot to pressure, I am not too sure I would ever use it to steam vegetable. Am I missing something on why I would purchase this? I am pretty new to instant pot cooking, hence my honest question.
This is also useful for separating items in the pot or transferring them (I used it for potatoes a bunch, for example), or in my case, when I was using my instant pot for sanitizing my baby bottles and pump stuff, it kept the smaller pieces from falling through.

But I'll be honest, I use the mesh metal steamer baskets a lot more (especially since I have the air fryer lid), and I basically never use this anymore.
Got it for $6.65 back in 2021. Can confirm, never used it.

I regularly cook hard boiled eggs, a tad easier to bring them to ice bath with something like this.

The amount of time it takes an instant pot to come to pressure has to do with how much liquid/mass is inside of it. Like a full pot of liquid to make chicken broth takes forever, but a small amount of water to steam does not. Also factor in that it is steaming your stuff before it reaches pressure, just like a regular boiling pot.

I have a smaller small pot with a metal steam basket insert already, so I'd use that if I was only steaming some vegetables. But if I'm making a dish with my instant pot and also need to steam vegetables, I'll just use the instant pot for it. For example, when I steam broccoli to add to a cheddar potato soup I'm making in the instant pot. That way I can do both in the 1 dish.

I don't think I'd ever bother dirtying the giant instant pot just to steam vegetables though

I think some actually have a dedicated steam function, so you could do that w/o high pressure. In my case, I use it for frozen tamales (cooked), which is what I'll be trying this out with.

Maybe you could put the veg in after the main meal has cooked and steam them as it cools a bit. Hmm

Most vegetables would be "pressure steamed " for 1 min and quick release. With such a small amount of water needed, pressure comes up pretty quickly but I haven't measured. After all the point is to have a repeatable system that does not take watching over. I also use it all the time for eggs so they are easy to remove and dunk in ice bath, as well as bones and veg for broth so I can easily remove the bulk after it all turns to mush and secondary straining isn't clogged up with the large pieces I removed with the basket. If you buy rotisserie chicken and aren't making broth with the carcass you are missing half the value of the rotisserie chicken.

Broccoli, 1 cup water, low pressure, time 0 minutes, quick release.

Hot dogs (beef or sausage), 1 cup water, high pressure, time 0 minutes, quick release.
FROZEN Hot dogs (beef or sausage), 1 cup water, high pressure, time 2 minutes, quick release.

Potatoes, halved or quartered, 1 cup water, high pressure, time 0-5 minutes (less if quartered, more if halved; potato variety plays a factor), quick release.

Carrots, 1 cup water, high pressure, time 0 minutes (more depending how 'al dente' you like them), quick release.

As other have stated eggs, artichokes too.
