I don't mean to shill for anyone, just am a genuinely satisfied customer and I think it's a great solution for a variety of situations.
They feel it takes away any responsibility they have to customers. I would avoid all costs buying hard drives at best buy

Is there a reason why you did not just build an Unraid Server? You can do the same upgrading your hdds
Never heard of drive pool
The only reason it got retired was to replace it with a larger drive.
In that same time period, I had two of three WD black drives fail.

I don't know if DrivePool is still a competitive solution but FWIW when I switched to it, my life got generally easier, and despite three drive failures I haven't lost any data since. Hope it helps.

I'd always walked by the local Radio Shack and stare at the fancy Tandy , IBM machine.
I told my self that I'd save up enough to buy one. We were poor so that never happen.
I ended up scraping parts from a PC repair shop. My first hard drive was used and had known bad sectors. I really wanted to build a computer so I bought it and installed windows.
Spent hours and days learning how computers worked and function. I was hooked once i got the OS to work.
$400 for a 200 MB drive.
Electec is long gone, and now $400 buys 36TB which is 36,000,000 MB.

So i suggest everyone to do this within 30 days , after that you will be paying for the shipping to return the defective hdd.
