I have this card, and the good thing is when you pick a 3% catagory, like internet shopping, it stays at 3% month after month without you having to renew/activate it each month.

The bad thing is, in real life, when you try to do a small less than $10 internet purchase, the card does a security freeze until you call them because the automated system sees small internet purchases as suspicious.

I think where this card really shines is if you can get to platinum rewards it gives an additional 75% on your cash back, so 3% category is now 5.25%

With inflation they should really increase the $2,500 spend for the 3%

Strictly speaking, this card seems to work without fail with Walmart and Amazon when it is set as the default card. But try to do a $1.29 online Walgreens ship-to-store for pickup, and it is blocked every time with the entire card going into a double secret probation Level III high security fraud department freeze.

So, anything under $20, I always use 2% Priceline which works every time.

Yup... also 3.5% at warehouse clubs if you don't have any better option that quarter from one of the 5x rotating cards.

I have this card. The fine print unless I am wrong is that the 3 percent category you chose is capped per quarter and it really doesn't add up to much. You are better off with a unlimited 2 percent like Wells Fargo or many other ones. Just my 2 cents.

It's $2500 cap- but the value is if you have high enough status with BoA- at which point that 3% becomes 5.25% within your category.

And if you DO have that status then you can also get a different BoA card that gives you 2.625% on everything.

2% cash is pretty much bottom of the barrel in value for non-category spending these days... the above is a lot better combo for someone who does not travel significantly... and for those who do both the Chase and Amex ecosystem offer much better options as well for non-category spending... (2x MR with a BBP or 1.5x UR with a freedom unlimited)

Weird. Mine must be a different card. My cap is $75 per quarter for 3 percent. Then it switches to 1 percent until the next quarter.

I think you are confused between a spending cap (which is $2500, and the cap the card actually has) and an earning cap-- which is 3% of $2500... but is a cap that does not exist

So if you have higher status instead of getting $75 back on your $2500 spend cap you get $131.25 back on the same $2500 of capped spending.

Plus, of course, you can have more than 1 of these cards, giving you the $2500 cap per quarter on each, much the same way having more than 1 chase freedom card gives you additional 5x earning $1500 caps.

But why would you keep money in BofA?

yeah, what Fanime said. Maybe not for everyone but you can link Merrill to BofA and supposedly (I'm in the process of testing this) the total assets go toward your rewards level qualification.
