Is this a better deal than the legion 5 with similar specs last week?

At this price, and for this brand, it should be 32GB ram.

Depends some people want a full keyboard and some don't want the laptop size to be 17". The Omen deal is a better price to performance deal if you are going on performance specs alone.

I do not think so. for 3070ti config i still prefer the legion 5i pro with the 3070t (cooling, and better rounded overall)i. If it was the RTX 3060 version I would favor the acer (priced often at $999 or less open box), because it is the same exact cooling system that the 3070ti version and can boost like crazy.

Any reason to get a 30 series with 40 series being around? Seems like the new one offers a big jump on desktop and mobile.

Helios 300 and Lenovo Legion 5 Pro have both been highly reviewed in 2022. 2 of the best laptops of 2022. They're basically identical except for screen. This is where you decision making should be focused on.

2022 Helios 300 Review: https://youtu.be/WP3pK-x4ta4
2022 Lenovo Legion 5i Pro review: https://youtu.be/xK1HbpUoxyE

Main differences I can see: Helios has 1440p 16:9 300 nits screen vs 1600p 16:10 500 nits screen on L5P. 16:9 is more theatrical screen so better for watching movies and YouTube. L5P has taller and narrower screen so better for gaming and web browsing while YouTube and movies will have black bars on top and bottom and will effectively reduce your 16" screen to about 13". Helios 300 screen is not as bright, but I notice I never crank L5P screen to full brightness indoors, it's just too bright unless you have a ton of sunlight in room, but it's nice to have option. This particular Helios 300 has 240hz screen vs 165hz screen on Lenovo. So lower resolution, more movie theater aspect ratio screen, lower brightness, but higher refresh rate than Lenovo. People have their preferences on screen ratios but IMO a 16:10 (taller) screen on Lenovo is superior and more immersive in games, but you can't go wrong with either one.

Helios 300 has wifi 6, L5P has 6e.

That's all the difference I could find. At native resolutions, Helios 300 should run faster since it is a bit lower resolution than Legion. Both have very good cooling and in benchmarks at same resolution, Helios 300 squeezes out a few fps more than Lenovo.

It looks like BestBuy has disabled open box sales for this laptop. Would've been an absolute deal of the year if you could buy this open box for $1200 or so.

32gb isn't that important for gaming right now, but it's a cheap upgrade either way maybe $30 after you sell the old ram.

In the days of the 7.2k spinning drives ram was way more important, now if you need to pull from a drive you are reading data off of a super fast m2. With modern code being able to prefetch as well as it does etc its really not going to matter much. There are definitely applications where its needed though but not really gaming imho.

That's mostly due to availability and them not really being a deal yet in comparison to what you can get the 2022 stuff for.

Just like skipping a model year... sets up a longer utilization cycle cutting demand

You didn't mention the biggest difference in screen, acer has 100% DCI-P3, which is pretty huge, the color difference will be pretty evident. Id prefer snd go for acer just for this, as they are the same priced with almost identical specs and build.
