If you can get your hands on one these are great for general use. The Pentium will get you a bit more performance than a Celeron. Also, the keyboard and trackpad are pretty good. I had some hands on time with this one in Costco yesterday while waiting on the Pharmacy. I was tempted to pick one up and put Linux or ChromeOS Flex on it.

I'd just buy used. I got a surface laoptop 2 for $200 but it's much more capable and better built quality. Used Laptop tend to sell cheap on fb market because there is not a lot of demand

Intel says the max ram that cpu can even use is 16gb… I wouldn't bother with more than 8 total, so the ram is all dual channel.

I would say it comes down to how you use the computer. If you only have a few things open at one given time I would probably go for the dual channel 8. That is if it will even do dual channel with part of the ram being different and soldered onto the motherboard. Also, who knows if the CPU would even be a bottleneck to that. How much faster would the dual channel memory go in this configuration anyways?

Not worth it. Just get an 8gb stick if you think you will use more then 8gb of RAM. It looks like there is a SD card reader. I would probably suggest to stick a 256 GB or greater stick in there. Put your files in such on that SD card and only have a few programs installed that you're going to need on the main drive. I'm surprised this does not have an M.2 open slot. Even if it was never used.
