Great starter card for younger people, but if you're interested in cash back, these cards with the quarterly cycling rewards categories simply end up not adding up to as much cash back as the cards with a higher base cb percentage (2% for all purchases). There are some quarters where the categories are completely useless, and it seems like those quarters are becoming more and more frequent. Still useful to have on standby, but I find that I rarely use this card or my Chase Freedom anymore.

I've not been eligible for over a year now. I've used these offers perhaps 3 times in my life with Discover Card, and then the deals completely stopped. I wonder what the criteria is to be eligible again, or did I burn bridges by not continuing to use the card?

I don't like the "up to 1% cash back" marketing. You have to hit a certain amount of spend per year or else it's a fraction of that.

Instead, I get 2% cash back on my Fidelity card and 3% on Chase for pharmacies and restaurants, and 5% in various categories through the year. Discover is playing the lobby game with politicians to cancel the cash back programs to be more competitive with other cards, so I hate their back channel lobby efforts that will make all cards more level for competitive purposes. 🤐🫤
