I bought 3 of these at the end of 2020 and installed them in my clinic's patient rooms. Sturdy bolts secure it into studs. Clean up easily. I leave them up all the time, but would be easy enough to press the latch and let them down in seconds.
Search brand "Sumnacon" on Amazon for heavy duty folding shelf brackets. They sell 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 20 inch sizes ranging in price from $12-$26.
This is still a decent price if you don't already have a top you can throw on it since even an IKEA top will be $100 and up.
Edit: The Sumnacon brand is rated for much lighter duty installs (130lbs or less) that's more typical for a computer/small project desk, but, as pointed out in other comments, there are several options in the same price range that use similar construction and support 300-500lbs.
Is it possible to buy such brackets separately? I have plenty of word that could function as the top. The garage doesn't need new and pretty.
Absolutely. Many options on Amazon e.g.Toirxarn Folding Shelf Brackets 16 Inch, Max Load: 330Ib, Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Collapsible Bracket for DIY Space Saving Wall Mounted Work Bench.Pack of 2… https://a.co/d/2RECR5J
It says "Solid rubber wood top for durability", What is Solid Rubber Wood?
Made from rubber trees. Predominant in Asia. I think generally cheaper than local lumber or wood types but i have found furniture made from rubber trees pretty durable.

FWIW you can buy 20" brackets with a 550lb weight rating for a DIY version for about $35/pr on Amazon. Even cheaper for the 16" brackets. The hardware is only a couple of bucks and you can use just about anything rigid for the surface (plywood, old book shelf, etc) Link for reference.

I bought one maybe 2 years ago. Keep in mind they're a huge pain to install by yourself if you don't have something to hold it up while you're screwing it into the studs.
I nearly broke my dang neck trying to keep this thing held up. I tried to piece together some stuff to hold it up and it collapses before I could finish.
Anyway, either have someone hold it up to help you or get something tall enough and sturdy to rest the table on while you install it. Because obviously you can't install it while the table is folded.

Remove one hinge from the table, install that, then rest the table on top of that with a level on top to install the second hinge (or mark second hinge, remove it and install it, then reattach table top)
The only one I could find had a pretty low weight limit of 132. Do they have something sturdier?
I'm not sure, but beyond the bracket's material and thickness, a lot of the strength is going to come from how it is connected to the wall.
Here's another option in that price range that's more heavy duty: https://a.co/d/7XAJS5K
Or there was one posted above that will do 550lb for $35.
Still, if you need the 500 pound weight limit and don't have the surface already, the HD set is still a good deal at this price. I bought the Sumnacon brackets for a computer/soldering/drawing desk, so I wasn't anywhere near needing the 500lb limit this one offers.

Another option, is just get some hinges. Build it so it folds up and triangles fold out from against the wall to hold it up. That's a cheap way. Put extra supports to hold more.

So, stating the actual material followed by two dashes, then saying something in the past tense "I would have called" - in this case, called meaning guessed . . .
Are you SURE I have to explain this? It feels extra-stupid, even trying to joke about it. Well, ok.
One would, usually in their head, read and paraphrase as "It says it's made of rubberwood. I would have thought that they would have made it out of something cheap and/or heavy like MDF, particle board, or something else originating in western Mordor."
Mordor? one may then think . . . I don't know where that is, let me google it. OH, it's a fictitious place that sounds dreadful.
Hey, that guy is joking! Joking on the internet, wow, now I have seen everything . . .
sorry to have disturbed your sensitive soul but i just copied and pasted a response from manufacturer to help out...
