I bought 3 of these at the end of 2020 and installed them in my clinic's patient rooms. Sturdy bolts secure it into studs. Clean up easily. I leave them up all the time, but would be easy enough to press the latch and let them down in seconds.

Search brand "Sumnacon" on Amazon for heavy duty folding shelf brackets. They sell 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 20 inch sizes ranging in price from $12-$26.

This is still a decent price if you don't already have a top you can throw on it since even an IKEA top will be $100 and up.

Edit: The Sumnacon brand is rated for much lighter duty installs (130lbs or less) that's more typical for a computer/small project desk, but, as pointed out in other comments, there are several options in the same price range that use similar construction and support 300-500lbs.

The only one I could find had a pretty low weight limit of 132. Do they have something sturdier?
I bought these for a fold-down work surface in my shop. They're really sturdy and have a weight limit of 550lb - $25 for the pair.

I bought 2 in 2021. They are very sturdy and the finish on the wood is very nice. Each bracket is almost 2 feet long against the wall and each bracket uses 5 lag bolts. So 10 lag bolts in total. Much larger brackets than the ones someone listed on amazon.

These are designed to be mounted on 2 studs 32" apart.

Great deal! Was looking to build the same thing a month ago. I priced it out at: $25 a side on hinges, a 4x8 3/4 ply cut in half and doubled up is $40 (I will die on the 2x4 table top hill is awful, unless you have a 48" planner), stain, clear coat and you are well over $100. That doesn't take into account time, which is worth way more than a workbench, unless as always you need something specific Thanks OP!

Absolutely. Many options on Amazon e.g.Toirxarn Folding Shelf Brackets 16 Inch, Max Load: 330Ib, Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Collapsible Bracket for DIY Space Saving Wall Mounted Work Bench.Pack of 2… https://a.co/d/2RECR5J

FWIW you can buy 20" brackets with a 550lb weight rating for a DIY version for about $35/pr on Amazon. Even cheaper for the 16" brackets. The hardware is only a couple of bucks and you can use just about anything rigid for the surface (plywood, old book shelf, etc) Link for reference.

Toirxarn brand, CUZURLUV brand, wtf is going on with these brand "names" on amazon?

$78 in 2021 for reference? how is this even relevant for anything?
Sorry it needs explaining, but it cost $78 in 2021, given all of the inflation of the last several years, only going up 35% means its a good deal.

I'm confused about this product's price. Can't you build your own for less than $50?

Wondering what the cost is to purchase same size wood, brackets to fabricate my own? I was thinking I would like to make this as a larger gaming and/or sewing station. Can it be done for less than 100?

Sorry didn't see this until after I commented. I guess the advantage is if you have wood laying around already and/or can be made to this or larger dimensions.
That being said, With over 700 available at HD I wonder if the price will fall further.

I need an item like this. Wonder if I should wait for further price drop or buy now. It's mostly just going to be used as a temporary desk here and there for my daughter's laptop and on occasion when I need to work on electronics and my main desk is cluttered (as per usual)
