I bought 3 of these at the end of 2020 and installed them in my clinic's patient rooms. Sturdy bolts secure it into studs. Clean up easily. I leave them up all the time, but would be easy enough to press the latch and let them down in seconds.
Search brand "Sumnacon" on Amazon for heavy duty folding shelf brackets. They sell 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 20 inch sizes ranging in price from $12-$26.
This is still a decent price if you don't already have a top you can throw on it since even an IKEA top will be $100 and up.
Edit: The Sumnacon brand is rated for much lighter duty installs (130lbs or less) that's more typical for a computer/small project desk, but, as pointed out in other comments, there are several options in the same price range that use similar construction and support 300-500lbs.
I need an item like this. Wonder if I should wait for further price drop or buy now. It's mostly just going to be used as a temporary desk here and there for my daughter's laptop and on occasion when I need to work on electronics and my main desk is cluttered (as per usual)
If you want a basic computer table, you can find $50-75 deals. But likely you won't find folding tables like this, with solid wood top, for much less. If its occasional use, the foldable is nice to clear up room when not used.
Be sure to check your stud spacing at your install locations. Garages and basements may have 24" spacing if they are using 2x6 walls. You would need to relocate the brackets to the very edge of the tabletop or close together in the center.
Remove one hinge from the table, install that, then rest the table on top of that with a level on top to install the second hinge (or mark second hinge, remove it and install it, then reattach table top)

I also broke my neck before realizing I had two sawhorses. Those worked perfectly to support the top while I screwed it into the wall. I used cardboard to shim perfectly level before screwing.
Liked first one so much, I have another on order. Bracket spacing should mean I can put it directly adjacent to the first so it can function as one 8' surface.
I bought 2 in 2021. They are very sturdy and the finish on the wood is very nice. Each bracket is almost 2 feet long against the wall and each bracket uses 5 lag bolts. So 10 lag bolts in total. Much larger brackets than the ones someone listed on amazon.
These are designed to be mounted on 2 studs 32" apart.
