The first gen Apple Pencil stinks. Avoid it if you can and get the Logitech one. The Apple Pencil 1st gen has the goofy charger on the end that requires a long special cable, and adapter, or worst off plugging it in to the base of your iPad so it's sticking out like 6".

That's one of those things if Steve Jobs were still alive he would have stabbed someone in the eye over that

Anyway, the tablet itself is a smoking deal. It's super fast and the classic design will appeal to a lot of people. I got my mom one over Christmas for a similar price and she took right to it.

Hmm, I just ordered one. Did you order 1st or 2nd Generation pencil? Only first generation works with iPad 9 and it appears to currently be in stock.

The Apple pencil must be added to order with the 9th Generation 64GB iPad for the additional price reduction.

It's actually a Logitech Crayon Digital Pencil for $59.49.

I have the Apple pencil 1 and the Apple pencil 2. I wouldn't say that the Apple Pencil 1 sucks. Yes, the charging is a bit awkward, but the pencil itself works well when using it to write or draw. And depending on how often somebody uses the pencil, it doesn't need to be charged that often, and it charges pretty quick, so I don't see the charging as a big deal.

I have not used the Logitech, but I know I probably wouldn't like it, because it looks a lot fatter than the Apple pencil and I'd rather hold a pencil in my hand instead of something that seems to be more like a medium sized magic marker.

How do these really compare to the higher end iPads? I'm new to Apple devices and trying to sort of figure out what differentiates an iPad like this from, say, an iPad Air or iPad Pro.
