I have this TV. It's definitely worth it at this price. The Sony processing upscales 4k to 8k and it looks great. You're paying for the Sony chip and the high brightness with this set.
I would ask to open the box and examine it right there in the store. Might be a bit awkward with such a big TV but better than trying to pack it all back up again and return it to the store IMO. My last Open Box experience with Best Buy was a $1250 Samsung Soundbar rated "Excellent" with "Best Buy Examined" and "No Damage" stickers on the outside. When I got home and opened it I found a heavily damaged Soundbar that was clearly dropped and returned to the store. They didn't even open the box, let alone "examine" it. They just slapped a sticker on it and called it a day. Was an hour round trip there and back twice.
I asked him to open it for me for inspection. the remote and power cord and the stand were inside the TV look okay inside the box but we'll find out when they deliver and install it if there's broken components I'll tell them to take it back LOL

That's true, that's an option if you have it delivered and set up. Others have had good luck with Open Box but my recent experience really soured me on it. Reminded me of the Lenovo factory refurbished laptop I bought that had a faulty battery right out of the box. Apparently the refurbishment process didn't include making sure the laptop turned on without a power cord. Really soured me on refurb products too which I'm now convinced are just repackaged returns that no one inspects.

So sorry for your horrific experiences. In my case it's the opposite, I have good luck with refurbished and open box. Bought earpods, Mavic drone, refrigerator, gimbal, etc...

Gotta agree. Once you go OLED, all other types of TVs look subpar.
8K is also still a gimmick at this stage. No native content, unless you count select YouTube videos.
I use the 65-inch Samsung QN800B 8K as my work monitor. It's the equivalent of 4x32-inch 4k monitors, but with Zero bezels. It replaced the 4x4k monitors I had in portrait orientation on 4 mounting arms, and I am loving it. There may not be a lot of 8K content , but for productivity, it can be a huge win.
Edited to add: I don't even have 20-20 vision, and I can read the text at all four corners of the monitor with 100% scaling.

I've read about the image burn-in O LED. Choices choices.
I purchased a SONY OLED 2 years ago, no burn ins or any other issue. I did purchase the Best Buy protection just to be on the safe side and protect my big investment (at that time). But so far very pleased with the performance and picture quality.

Oled for the basement…rest of the house is bright with numerous windows. LEDs have a huge place in the world. This will be awesome for me
This is exactly my case. I moved my OLED to the bedroom. I use the Z9J in the living room that is across from a huge window that causes glare until the sun is down. The brightness of the Z9J plus the PQ sealed the deal for me.
in extreme use cases, burn ins are possible. but they are unlikely with normal everyday use with all the new mitigation features in modern oleds.
Didnt Rtings just drop a new test with more recent tvs? LGs did pretty good, Sony (which used lg panels) less so, and QD OLEDs (Samsung) had more issues (I beleive) but maybe thats just a preliminary test, that was something like 20 hours per day with static images?
Personally, I dont see the point of an 8k (for a consumer) unless your running 4x 4k signals on it or using it as a monitor. By the time 8k is useful, you could spend less for better tech

Thanks for responding about this. This helps seals the deal for me as the room this is going in has near direct sunlight + downstair windows.
NOTE: It's a damn shame how the best TVs are OLEDs as they truly need dark rooms to REALLY "shine". I'd never give up the natural brightness of my home, but I get tired of everyone screaming "GET AN OLED" at every TV posting as if we all live in caves
(The fluid blacks on an OLED in a dark area is magnificent though)

8K is useless unless you have a 120" screen and sit 6 feet away, or if you are a freak with 20/10 vision or something. Also the amount of horse power required to run that many pixels is ridiculous. As others have mentioned, there is no content and there many never be any to make it worthwhile. This isn't the same situation as going from HD to 4K. There you can notice a difference. With 4K-8K there have been many tests that show almost nobody can tell the difference at normal viewing distances. Buy a high end 4K and don't look back.
