About this Item: - Portability meets power. We partnered with AMD to create Steam Deck's custom APU, optimized for handheld gaming. It is a Zen 2 + RDNA 2 powerhouse, delivering more than enough performance to run the latest AAA games in a very efficient power envelope.
- Your Steam Library, anywhere. Once you've logged into Steam Deck, your entire Steam Library shows up, just like any other PC. You'll also see the compatibility rating of each game, indicating the kind of experience you can expect when playing. You can dynamically filter any view in your library by compatibility rating if you're looking for specific sorts of experiences.
- Control with comfort. The Steam Deck was built for extended play sessions—whether you're using thumbsticks or trackpads—with full-size controls positioned perfectly within your reach. The rear of the device is sculpted to comfortably fit a wide range of hand sizes.

If you are somewhat tech savvy I recommend the 64GB model paired with a 512GB or 1TB micro SD card. You can always upgrade the internal SSD if necessary. The issue with the 64GB is shaders must be stored on internal drive, not SD card, so between the OS and shaders the drive fills up fast.
If you don't feel like messing with opening the deck up, go for the 256GB model paired with a 1TB micro SD card.
The 512GB model only worth it for anti glare screen if you feel like you'll be playing it often outside.
Some must have programs for deck:
Decky loader - plugin manager for themes, power tools, and much more
EmuDeck- old school games emulation
Steam Rom Manager - adds your emulation game to steam, categorized by system with full game box and cover art
I also highly recommended a 45w power bank, the decks biggest weakness is battery life, you'll want a battery pack for travel
Be aware not all games run out of the box. Some require tweaking or custom proton versions to run properly.
ProtonDB.com lists game compatibility for all games and is a great resource, it's also a plug-in for decky

If you are a tinker/slightly tech savvy, you will have so much fun messing around with the OS.
Even if you are not a gamer, you can use it as a great desktop.

If you have the highest tier of game pass, this thing is excellent as a companion to your console.
On another note - I'm amazed at how well this thing is engineered at this price point. I was recently looking at Ayaneo 2 reviews and even though that thing has impressive specs it's $1100. Steam deck gets about the same performance as that at 15W use. If the Ayaneo is used at 22W or higher it handily beats the deck in performance but at a battery life expense (despite having a larger battery). That just shows Valve engineers hit the balance between price, performance and battery life very well. Nothing wrong in getting the Ayaneo 2 if you can afford it, but for most people the steam deck would be the better buy.

Switch OLED screen/battery/size is a much better true portable device. It's also simpler to use and has the hybrid ability ready to go.
Steam Deck screen and battery life are unfortunate, but at this price point they did what they could and you have to respect that. Size is a bit bulky but you really don't want them messing with that too much if it messes with ergonomics. Version 2, if they can keep a similar price point, upgrade the screen to an OLED and get the battery to a decent level, will be a game changer.
At this price, if you are tech savvy and looking for a new toy to game on, this is a great device. Get the cheapest one, gut the HD and do as you please.

for those that have the 64gb model and are haunted by shader cache sizes (which will absolutely happen if you have multiple games installed)..unfortunately, I don't have my deck with me and I can't remember what application I installed
Easily the best consumer electronic I've purchased in a decade.
