Not sure how long it will last but my 12,000 was amazing last summer.

Super quiet and lowest power use possible for a window unit.

I just don't like how you can't make it use outside air, circulate only and the remote sucks.

Did you know Midea makes like 9 out 10 microwaves sold in the US? All the brand relabels are mostly Midea

I really like the efficiency of my 8000 and 12000 units, but they are definitely not easy to clean out. Getting some musty smells from them now. Also, the feature that holds water at bottom of outside unit also collects lots of bugs and dirt. The app works well enough. Never use the remote.

I bought the 8000Btu of $276 a while back and have enjoyed it. It is quiet, that is for sure.

How about drilling a hole at the bottom to drip away the water? I know it sucks because one shouldn't resort to this on a premium unit.

just want to add that these ACs require a mount. if you plan to install it, make sure you have a flat wall under the window that brace shoes of the mount.

Costco ad says the 12k has heat mode. Realizing it won't be very efficient in heat mode, but anybody know if it really has a reversing valve?

I don't think the U-shaped models have reverse cycle heat mode. The Midea website for the model number MAW12AV1QWT says it doesn't have heat. So maybe Costco made a mistake.

Midea does have a *non*-U-shaped inverter AC with heat but it's out of stock everywhere.

I really wanted one of these from Sam's Club for $300 last year (12k BTU) but didn't have a membership or get one fast enough. I hope this isn't the best price we see this year because I need two and this seems expensive. But so does everything.

On modern ACs, you're not supposed to drill holes - the water is supposed to help cool off the coils or something like that. I'm going to use algae tablets every month to keep the water from becoming stagnant sludge, as well as cleaning the filter every week. Should help with keeping it mold-free, because I hear cleaning these from the inside out is nigh impossible. For bugs and dirt I can probably just blast it with a water hose to get it out every so often.

I just bought mine and it's coming tomorrow. I have vinyl siding (that angled 'ribbed' design). Not sure how it's going to pan out as its not flat, and is prone to fracturing/breaking, but I'm already too late in the game to turn back now. It looks like the feet of the brace have anti-slip shoes so it shouldn't be too bad. If not, I'm going to rig it to work somehow, ugliness be damned. This is the best AC there is apparently, and that's what I'm sticking with. I don't care what my neighbors think - they don't pay my mortgage and I'm not in an HOA. Watching them get butthurt over trivial things makes my day better!

These units would be great for RVers...I'm really surprised the RV industry has not tried to go to mini split technology, instead they rely on those noisy units that are top mounted...unfortunately most RV windows swing out instead of slide up and down.

Yup - I am one of the lucky ones that got the "inverter" (means that AC can work in heat pump mode as well) 12kbtu units last year. I absolutely love it. Heat pump works just as efficiently as cool mode (I guess that should be obvious lol).

I sure wish they would come back in stock. I would definitely buy at least one more.

I run my unit from my isolated solar electricity array, and during the cool (not "cold") months, I can heat my whole house from solar power using the inverter unit.

But back on topic - this U-shaped unit is awesome. I wouldn't hesitate to get one if you don't have one (I already have a 12kbtu of this u-shaped one).

I did a lot of research on these and ultimately decided against them. Here are the potential issues

-Mold Growth in bottom of the unit as well as on the fan. When it grows on the fan, it doesn't push nearly as much air. You have to stay on top of it.
-The 12K and 10K units aren't physically any bigger than the 8K unit. They just have a bigger compressor and can't move enough air to actually use it properly. Users will find that the bigger units under some circumstances will only cool the room down so far because the unit can't move enough air across the evaporator to prevent it from freezing, so it just stops cooling to prevent that. It seems like they should have made the 10K and 12K models physically bigger, but for whatever reason, they didn't. Hopefully they address this in the future.

It seems like the 8K unit is the one to get if you go in this direction. If you need something bigger (which I did for my space), you're better off with another unit or a mini-split if you can do it.

Thanks. The brace with rubber shoes works with vinyl siding. It will take little effort to make it snug and leveled. Worse situation you could bolt a wood piece onto the siding. If you had a dormer window with a roof under, I'd be more concerned as you would have been SOL.

All in all I hate the idea of braces. Yea it's stabilizes, but it really messes up your windows.

Plenty of older threads on pros/cons both here and among reddit - . Had a 12k U model last year that worked great for a month with limited use. No error codes, fan ran fine but just stopped cooling. Tried all modes, among "dry," bringing it down to lowest temp, fan speeds, etc. to no avail.

Yes, it sounds like a helicopter is flying overhead when the compressor spins up, rather than a clunk of a traditional A/C and also has a high pitch noise when you first turn it on for a few minutes. Again, search all this stuff out if you're not familiar; plenty of info out there

Ultimately opened a case with Midea support. Since mine was rather new, they were very helpful at least in the sense of responsiveness to email after the initial phone call and had case # established. Walked me through some really basic troubleshooting like you'd expect the cable company to ask you when the Internet is out. After 1 or 2 calls they asked for an image of the serial number sticker and invoice and they sent me a check to cover the full amount of purchase price and didn't want it back or even attempt a repair. It's as if they knew something about this batch or whatever and deemed it not worth the investment.

Just had PSE&G haul it away with an older refrigerator as part of a recycling program and they cut me a check for $25 for the A/C and $50 for the fridge. Back to the drawing board and going to look at the LG Dual inverter series next. Would have preferred to get one with a heat pump function as well, but those don't look too plentiful in the marketplace yet unless you go for true mini-split ductless system.

I have older vinyl siding and it works well for me.

It's going to take a good hour and a half to install it the first time. But once it's installed, it's very sturdy, it's got like 4 different ways it secures the AC to the frame/window/wall. This is the best window AC I've ever owned and I'm hoping the 12k gets a bit cheaper to I can add another one to my house.
