You're doing it wrong - burn the propane to create flames. It isn't supposed to be used as a seasoning or marinade.

Besides, pellets are the way to go. All the wood flavor with the convenience of a gas grill, whether smoking or direct grilling.

I hate how SD manipulated this post. It got to the Front Page because it very briefly had Free Shipping. I reported it as expired because it no longer had free shipping as of yesterday. But they just change the post (to remove Free Shipping) and keep it on the Front Page even though what got it to the Front Page was a savings of approximately $79 vs what you have to spend now to get it shipped. I get that the grill is still the same price and that some people will pick it up but that's not the deal that got it to the FP.

Bought the 4 burner with the sear 3 years ago. Still working today. Only issue was the drip pan brackets broke off in a year but I had the warranty they offered. that I paid 12 bucks for. I called them, sent them pictures and they refunded my purchase price minus the 12 bucks and said keep it or throw it away and buy another. It still grills fine as of today. Best 12 bucks I've spent.

Traeger is more of a smoker than a grill, and an over-rated one at that. I have yet to eat anything cooked on a Traeger that was actually good. You are right that they don't get up to the same heat level, so no sear or char.

The person using the Traeger probably doesn't know what they are doing then. Same thing if you ate crappy food off a cheap grill..

I was responding to someone who posted that they use a pellet grill and it's better than gas grill. But when I used a pellet grill it never got as hot as a lump charcoal grill.

Best thing is have 1 and 1. You can always do a reverse seat on steaks, putting it on the pellet grill till about 100 degrees internal temp, then tossing it in a super hot gas grill. You get the flavor and the great sear and cook it much faster
Thanks for your response. I thought it was just the Treager grill and it's design to not get that hot. And your post confirmed it. I use a lump charcoal grill to high heat sear and indirect heat.

Yeah I don't like using it. It burns thru a lot of pellets in a short time. Luckily I don't have to use it all that much, just when I go to my parents house and they ask me to BBQ. But even then I try to use either their charcoal grill they just bought or their electric grill.

Yeah that's what I noticed. I don't think I'm using it correctly. I'm used to lump charcoal. I only have to use the treager grill when I go to my parents house and they ask me to BBQ.

I got the $400 stainless steel Kitchenaid grill from Costco for $100 last month.

A friend who missed out on that but saw my grill went to pick this one up.

He got to Home Depot, saw it, and left. His comment: "The only flame I'd associate with that thing is flaming pile of shit. It's SO much worse than the Kitchenaid. Feels like it was made with recycled tin cans."
