The concern is with pests that hitch a ride on the plants across state lines. California has significant agricultural exports: Grapes — $5.23 billion, Almonds — $5.03 billion, so laws don't allow shipping plants in from out of state.

You know it's funny, people really don't realize how those laws in California have changed products all over the country to be made of safer materials. A lot of manufacturers don't want to put those labels on their products in California, so they reformulate so they don't have to. This actually improves the quality across the country of those products.

Anyway I get the joke. But I really do wonder if people appreciate the reality.

Yes they are toxic to pets, but my animals don't really chew on the leaves. Now I have it outside in my patio because it really need some "bright indirect light" and it was not doing well in the living room...But I got my FLF from Costa Farms on amazon last year in July, it was like 30" tall. Now it is 6ft. I didn't really chip off the leaves on the bottom because I know if I don't like the look they will never grow back. lol.

What's sad is that it's not funny at all. The fact that so many here in this country have this attitude is the very reason so many corporations sell food and other products in this country that are filled with carcinogens but sell the same products in other countries without the carcinogens because those countries have regulations similar to those in California.

I'm not trying to start an argument but hope those who make jokes about corporations being able to sell things that they know cause cancer will think about why that is the case.

The joke is really not that deep…but you have to admit that slapping Prop 65 on everything under the sun undermines the cause and has led to a lawsuit frenzy. There's no value in telling people that entering Disneyland could give them cancer.

It's a little more nuanced than that.
"At its best, Prop 65 has resulted in changes in product formulation to remove or reduce potentially harmful chemicals, including in things like Wite-out and herbicides. Awareness raised by Prop 65 led Coke to change its use of 4-MEI, a potential carcinogen found in some caramel coloring."

Just for kicks, I did a quick Google search and here's one article dated last year with several examples. If you don't like that particular website, there are many, many others to choose from when you do a Google search.

I first became aware of this issue many years ago when I was pregnant with my now adult son. One thing that sticks out to me from all those years ago was how many corporations put food dyes in products here (NutriGrain cereal bars was one that was mentioned in the article I read) that are known to cause problems, especially in children. If they sold the same exact product in some other countries, they would have to indicate on the label the known problems with consuming the food dyes. Instead of doing that, the corporations opted to replace the problematic dyes with natural food coloring to avoid the label notice. My question then and now is why couldn't they just do that for ALL countries?

Mine did that too. The trunk still looked green so I watered it once a week. Two weeks later, new leaves from the top! It looks awkward, but so far three leaves in less than a month! Hopefully keeps going and eventually doesn't look weird.

Did you move the plant by any chance? I heard they don't like change. We moved a few months earlier and it was probably just catching up.
