Perhaps a gaming laptop isn't the right laptop for you.

125W + 25W, if I'm not mistaken.
So, full wattage.

Absolutely atrocious If you keep it with the stock install (lots of ghost processes eating the battery) . Less than 2h.
After fresh install and not installing any Alienware crap. It was slightly better

Avoid anything Dell makes. Honestly Asus ROG makes the best gaming laptops. I have an Alienware Area 51m and an older Asus Strix Scar. The Area 51m has constant problems whenever there's any driver or bios updates from dell. I've never had this many issues on a PC. Big example is during each bios update the computer would freeze on the bios update screen at 100%… eventually figured out you can force restart and you'll be fine if you wait an hour or two just to make sure it is actually done. Meanwhile my Asus runs like a dream… just getting to the point where newer games can't run that well on it… save your money and get an ASUS ROG… or anything else
HP better than asus

I own this laptop and if it were me, I would pass. This thing runs hot. So much so that if I am not careful overheating occurs. This has happened quite a few times when I left something running and left the room. A referb would not give me confidence with this model.

Lol, a laptop is infinitely more portable than a desktop. I have both high spec pc and laptop. I use my desktop at home and whenever I'm on the road or traveling i'll bring my laptop.

My gaming laptop is used for more than just gaming. 3D modeling, photoshop, etc.

The convenience of being able to just throw my laptop and charger in my backpack beats hauling my 20lb pc, monitor, keyboard, cables, etc. And that would require a full on suitcase to fit everything, never mind traveling with it securely.

There is no comparison. It's like comparing a landline phone to a cell phone.
Question after I point out a couple things. 1) I don't really game but used to, so I understand performance. 2) I've been on a the Apple architecture for a while, including iphone and I just watch videos/stream other than do some minor work related stuff (nothing intensive like photoshop/video rendering). Do you still get a better bang for your buck getting say an Asus ROG or just a macbook for everyday things, no real gaming, streaming/videos.

Battery life kinda matters for me too, I like to stay unplugged as long as I can and not worry about "life cycles" I know all laptops have cycle counts.

This vs Asus ROG G15 AE?
I have the Asus G15 AE and can only compare to the AW M15 R4 that I had (very similar overall to this AW R7) and I like the Asus because it's lighter, a bit less "gamer" with the alternate ROG trim piece (smoked plastic) than the AW (totally subjective though), and the 6800M is such a beast, even without a MUX switch I'm getting 11600-11800 on timespy which is impressive. The laptop also lasts 10+ hours on battery playing Southpark off of a USB on 3/10 brightness for example which is huge for me because I use the laptop more for YouTube, productivity, web browsing etc. than I do for gaming. Even on the lowest possible power setting and lowest possible brightness the AW lasted a little bit over 2 hours, maybe 2:30 if you ran it all the way until it shuts off. I immediately upgraded to a dual rank set of 32GB of RAM and purchased a couple NVMe's to see which one works best as the 512GB p670 that comes stock is not the best. Also, the AW command center software for RGB and overclocking and other settings like game profiles etc is atrocious, just Google it, however people whine about the Armoury Crate on the Asus but it's light years ahead of the AW in my opinion. Anyways, hope this helps, plus the Asus is a bit cheaper (I landed an excellent open box for $920 and it had 3 hours on the SSD and everything was new and wrapped in plastic, a true open box which sometimes is not the case). Good luck!

Stick with the Macbook. They're champs in battery life and if you don't game then no reason to get a windows gaming laptop. Macs are more expensive vs the competition but for good reason! They're solid

Yea, I ended up with a MBP M1 base open box. Expensive, but my last one (brand new) was in 2015 with like 1500 cycles. I don't use it as much anymore as I use the TV and am around the house more often.
