Im curious if the floor standers for LR are good? They have different levels (50,55,60) but outside of specs, im unsure if they are as great as the bookshelves. https://www.polkaudio.com/en-us/p...elite-es55 Wonder how these are?

I have the RTI A7s in my basement (I believe these es replaced the rti series) and love them. The 7s were the middle of the pack when I bought them (they had a5 and a9 floors). I've never been disappointed with Polk speakers. Those A7s are paired with 4 rtia3s for rears and it all sounds great.

Yes, most of the dialog comes from your center speaker. Some would argue it's the most important speaker.

I love the way that the Polk ES line looks. I wish they made matching front heights for the front speakers for those of us that can't put speakers in the ceiling.

I like mine as well. It was perfect for me because I don't have a lot of space (height-wise) so this fit really well. It sounds good and can get loud. It's funny because people think it's a sound bar and just don't understand. My only wish is that it was 6 ohm instead of 8/4. If you are limited on space or like the sound bar look, I'd jump on this. If you do have the space, I'd go with a Klipsch or JBL

I currently have the LSiM 706C...not sure if this would be a step down or not...

I think this would be a step down. LSiM is probably more comparable to the Reserve series.

Yes, I understand that part. I am curious why there are so many drivers?

Fry's used to have banging arse deal on Polk. It's all AMDs fault they went out of business too.
Couldn't have been that their management was inept and had one guy who literally embezzled $65 million and was put in prison...

That's what I was sort of thinking, as well...and it's paired with the LSiM surrounds, so I think I'll stay with what I've got...put the $$ towards a new AVR.

The center is the most important speaker in a surround system, so yes, you want such a large center speaker.

7 small drivers in a horizontal array means a whole lot of comb filtering.

This. Please trust some of us audiophiles here and avoid this unless it's for a single seat home theater. (Also: I am a Polk fan. This design just stinks.)

This is a tiny center channel. The drivers are 1" and multiple 3". The entire speaker is only 4" tall x 6" deep x 24" wide.

You don't need huge speakers to get good sound. I think Polk is moving towards smaller, more affordable speakers. I sold my RTI series with a huge SVS subwoofer after 15 years and actually have better sound now with tiny mirage speakers and sub.

I had a full set of RTi speakers. They were huge, heavy, and sounded pretty good. They weren't efficient and needed a 3xxx and 4xxx Denon receiver to power them. I wanted to downsize so sold everything and went with some used Mirage speakers and a Yamaha AVR. What a difference. That expression a blanket was lifted off. My speakers happened to me. Polk makes a good consumer grade affordable speaker that sounds nice. Just don't be afraid to try different brands as you may be very surprised in the sound quality difference.
never heard of Mirage, but I'm not big into stereos like I used to be. I have nothing against cheaper speakers if they sound good. I don't have an expensive setup by any means. My fronts are Boston bookshelves and surrounds are EnergyTake 5. Nothing big to look at there. But the sub and the receiver are where its at and everything together sounds great to me....I probably have some hearing loss though Smilie

For those who would like to understand why you should not be impressed by "more speakers must equal better sound", check this out. Skip to 6 minutes in to get past the intro.
