I've been looking for a decent charcoal grill.. is this a good one for the price? Or should I just fork out enough for an acorn kamodo joe?

This is a great charcoal grill and an amazing buy if you are in the market for one.

Weber's cooking grates are no longer stainless steel. The get rusty very fast and fall apart. I have to buy a new one every year or so.

Same with the "One-Touch cleaning system". Unusable after a year due to rust.
shop around, you can get ss ones

Yes, just remarking that the Weber name is not what it used to be.

Depends. Nothing sears like the Weber kettle. It's great for burgers, steaks, sausages. The Weber is lightweight and easy to move around.

The Kamado holds heat very well. It's great for making pulled pork, brisket, ribs, pizza. It's heavy, not too fun to move around. A bit harder to clean out ash.

They are both great grills. But perform differently.

^ This. Have both. If you want to do more standard grilling, steaks, burgers, etc. Then the Weber is easier and generally works better for that. You can do either with either when set up right but out of the box the strengths are as you say.

I purchased this on the east coast and just finished setting it up. It came with the newer "P-vents" which are supposed to allow for finer air control for low and slow if anyone is curious. Photos in listing suggested otherwise so that was a pleasant surprise.

You can't go wrong with a Weber. They are extremely versatile. They are also a great entry into grilling so you can experiment with different methods.
