I don't think this is a great deal when the iphone 11 can be had for as low as $60 from Metro PCS, that's with 1 month service included and you wait 6 months instead of 12 for unlocking.

I was able to add the phone and $15 plan by going to phone buy page selecting color and clicking check availability. Then before choosing a plan open new tab and BYOP (https://my.boostmobile.com/shop/buy/plans/) with $15 plan and click Choose Plan. Total (before tax) in cart $214.99.

How did you make the $200 deal work? I presume this is with the $15 BYOD plan?
It was briefly available for purchase without a plan on the legacy side. I got an order confirmation, but status shows canceled. Here is the link, but all are sold out now:

There was a link shared in another thread, where you didn't have to add a plan. Just straight up $199 for the iphone 12.

Are these locked for certain? Because the XRs posted a few weeks back were unlocked (but it's more likely that was since they were refurbs and reached the unlock window given their age and the fact that they were previously used on Boost long enough)
Definitely locked. I received mine the other day and that was the first thing I checked.

Not saying this is a good deal. But IP12 is newer and better than the 11. 11 is going to be outdated without 5g soon enough.
This exactly. The IP12 being 5G is already far superior to the 11.

will the iphone 12 still be good to use for the next 2-3 years?
Well for comparison we're still on original iPhone X from 2017 and they're still going strong. Fully supported by the latest iOS and battery health over 80%. Apple makes a damn good device.

Did you insert a non-boost sim first?

Ordered previously with the 15$ byop and the order status showed 'error' from the start under order history in my account.

I hope you have better luck than me

I did not. I just checked "Carrier Lock" under settings and it says "Sim Locked"

How simple, or difficult, is it to get this iPhone 11 for $60 from MetroPCS?

Assuming that it is relatively simple, especially, if you don't have to port a line in, this would possibly be a fantastic deal to use as a trade-in towards a Google Pixel 7. If you wouldn't mind replying and sharing some more information about this, it would be very much appreciated.

Nothing happened since I received my order confirmation email.
Customer service confirmed that my order is good but can't explain why it didn't ship.
I would advise everyone to use Paypal in checkout so if you end up in a similar situation you can cancel the payment

Can you walk through how you actually got through checkout with the $15 plan step by step? Nobody who says they did it has said how beyond that first post, which doesn't actually work. Is the workaround now dead when you try to reproduce?

I think from previous Boost deals, I forgot the link, there was a way to ad $15 plan instead of the $40 plan. But don't think you can do that anymore. I could be wrong if someone come up with a new way to trick the system.

As it was mentioned in another reply it is from a past deal and the steps mentioned in the comment are correct but I tried in this deal and it was updating the cart into the 40$ plan this time. I tried a couple of times because I am still trying to figure out how to get the phone or my money back from the previous deal. I did make my purchase after many people said it is dead and Boost fixed it last time so maybe that's the issue

You have to port a number to get the "free" iPhone, the $60 is technically for the 1st month of service. You can get two per account, and the 2nd line would be $40. $110 or so for 2 iPhone 11s isn't bad at all. Easy to do in store at a corporate location. The device will be locked to Metro for 180 days, but if you're using it for a trade in, no worries.
