I personally ran into this a while back when Apple won't let my perfectly physically working iPhone 6 update past iOS 12. Over time some major apps (banking, email, etc,) stopped working unless I updated iOS, which was impossible. So I had no choice but to upgrade devices.
I'm not saying it's right mind you, but that's a pretty long time to support a phone compared to competitors.
Meanwhile, Microsoft doesn't support processors that were new 6 years ago in Windows 11.
Regardless Android still has app support for their 8-9 year old devices.
The iPhone 6 was supported all the way up to IOS12 which was released in 2018 and was the latest version until late 2019. This means the iPhone 6 hasn't been able to run the latest OS for a little under 4 years.
Even now Apple release security updates for IOS12, the latest being January this year. This is security updates 6 years longer than a phone running Lollipop.
When it comes to length of support on phones, no one really beats Apple.
