While you are not committed to a 12 month contract, Boost does automatically put you on autopay, so you would need to cancel that or use a single use credit card to avoid the extra charges. Also, if you read though the thread, you will see that you can get it with a $15 plan instead of the $40.

If I use paypal, how do I cancel the automatically charge? this will be my first time buying a phone plan. I'm under my parents but they no longer can afford new phones.
Unfortunately the $15 plan is not available in my area, I clicked and it leads me to the $40 or $60 plan.
I can just trade my XS and I'll pay the differences of $439.00. This seems a bit more logical in my situation, I guess.
This would've been a deal if I'm able to use it with my current plan with my parents, otherwise it's another trade that will cost an extra $300 making this whole thing $540, plus going back and forth with Apple in apple store.
Tried to order another one with $15 plan again over the weekend. A bit hard to get the $15 plan trick this time. Tried 5-6 times. Eventually got it. But got "Error" today
So $15 loop might be fixed.
Edit: System shows "Error" instead of cancelled.
