Just picked one up in store. They had 2 in stock.

I went with the AT&T new line route. The first employee was slightly confused and said I needed a 3 year contract to get the deal. After she called over the AT&T guy he set things straight. There's a Z Fold4 deal going on right now that involved bill credits and a contract so that's where the confusion was from.

The AT&T guy was super helpful. He said I need to be on ATT for 60 days before they can unlock.

After all is said and done It'll be ~$455 out the door if I'm able to cancel on time.

Keeping it to use for now. If I like the form factor I may upgrade to the Z Fold5 when it comes out. When the Z Fold4 came out Samsung gave $1000 credit for the 2 generation old Z Fold2.
So confusing. The website clearly states devices paid in full don't have to wait 60 days. Thanks for the info

I picked up a tello phone number for $5. I then placed order online for best buy for new line. It said my phone is going to be ready for pickup on Saturday. Should I now port back to tello or wait to pickup and try to unlock first? I wanted to use with t-mobile. Trying to avoid att $60 first month plan and $30 activation fee all together...lost in all the information here, but ordered first, ask questions after as ~$300 for this phone is a steal.
I'd imagine you need to wait for pickup before porting but I could be wrong maybe someone else knows. I'm in the same position and wondering exactly the same as well. I think we need to wait 60 days for unlock :/

Porting out means you used the line and owes first month and activation fees. But if you are able to cancel the service in 14 days or something (30days?) you can get a refund for the whole fees,
am I right?

Will the phone still be unlocked after you port it in less than 60 days?

Hmm.
I tried Tello and the eSim option and eSim doesn't work for these devices, as the Sim Card Manager option in settings aren't there, unless my device (ATT) is just special..

Anyway, on Tello, it wouldn't let me port out until I can activate the eSim, so I had to switch to sim card, which will take 3-5 days shipping. And hopefully the port out won't take too long after.

Anyone can tell me what I missed though?

As soon as yo have the phone in hand.

Port out the line to cancel. Line automatically cancels as soon as the number it ported out (5-10 mins). You can port to Tello for $2.50.

These phones are subsidized by the carriers and hoping people would switch or add more lines and stay with them, etc; therefore different carrier may offer different prices.

You can request unlock right away because it's paid in full with no money owed; i.e., no monthly installment,

Yes.

Port out the number to cancel right (5-10 min, as soon as the number is ported) so that you don't have to deal with rep that doesn't allow you to cancel. You can port to Tello for $2.50.

Yes, but you can cancel right away.
You mean to request and wait for it to be unlocked before port out to cancel right?

Who told you that you had to activate esim to port out? I just went to the porting section and requested the port out info. I never activated the esim on my phone. It seems my best buy att order went through fine so far....

There is a top level screen protector installed from the factory. There is another layer under than that, that if attempted to be removed will destroy the screen. Video for reference [youtube.com]
FWIW I got my fold 3 used with the original protector gone, and 1 year later it is still completely fine.

So the fold 3 comes with a factory installed screen protector? Can I purchase a after market protector and place on top or do i peel the factory one off?

The website is correct. The AT&T guy is wrong. Imagine going to the court, which would the Judge believe, words of mouth from the AT&T guy or the website?

Either way is fine. There are two options (with a AT&T number and without) to request unlock on the AT&T unlock portal.

Yes, at least on my end, unless you have a number to port in. You can get a cheap number to port in such as Tello or Google Voice.

Same here. The checkout process won't go.
